I raced 125 open this weekend @40 yrs old and let me tell you, IT WAS A BLAST!!!! I went out and picked up an 05 CR125 yesterday and got rid of the 250f because of the fun I had. I hadnt been on a 125 since 95ish and a couple weeks ago I started riding my buddies 125 in vet open. Fast forward this weekend and decided to race 125 open along with my normal vet open class. Well to my surprise the motos where back to back. I had to finish the 125 class and go right to the gate for vet open 10 straight laps. I finished 4-3 for 3rd in 125 open out of 8 and 4th in vet open. Anyways heres a short vid of the smoker getting molested lol, to all vets go get a 125 and ride the kid classes it will make you feel young again lol.

I am 43 and have a 07 YZ125. Not sure I'll ever own another sized bike.

But I am only ever going to "win" practice: too scared to line up next to kids with braces. I have to go to work on Monday.

I have to admit, I have been pretty anti 2stroke because of all the 4stroke bashing but I'm driving the 2stroke bus now lol.

I have a YZ125 that I race in the 30+ class all the time and quite often in the 250 B class.
It's more fun than any bike I've owned or ridden, I love that aggressive 125 riding style.

There are tracks and instances where you just won't win on the little 125 vs all the guys on 450F... But it's still a lot of fun getting that 2nd or 3rd.

One thing i have noticed about the track i ride (Hannegan Speedway).. It has become Wide and Smooth, very freeway like. And yes, i feel that gives the 450's a big advantage.. Tracks have changed to accomodate the turds. But i have so much fun screaming around its worth it..

Yea racing the 450's is much more of a challenge for sure. Thank god the tiddler can out turn them. I had a guy come up to me after the Moto and was like "damn I wish I could take those lines on my 450" I just smiled and chuckled.

Even though I'm more competitive on the 450 and the 250 smoker is really the ultimate woods weapon and my 919 is a blast in the twisties... I will let all those go before I give up the Pea Shooter, it's "SIMPLY" that fun! 125's are what this sport has to have.

Lol what I thought was an 05 CR125 is an 04Pinch I know the motor was a turd as far as power for this yr but they say it handles like no other. Still skeptical about that electronic power valve though. Just pulled the cylinder/head and sent it over to my guy for a mill and some porting. Got some vforce reeds on the way. tiddler came with a mint PC pipe and silencer. Smile Anyone with first hand knowledge about this yr CR?

well the gearing is finicky, tough to find a spot where it isn't a huge jump whenever you shift

took me a while on my 07 cr (ridden an 02 and 04) and it seemed like the older ones were a bit faster but still had the weird gearing, not sure why they went with 5sp vs 6

i had the toughest time figuring out shifting on that bike, my 09 ktm 125sx is a ton better though, perfect gear spacing

if the gearing was sorted on the cr i really think it could be nice even though its fairly slow, i can deal with a slower bike lol. that was my only gripe with that bike really, other than that it handles amazing, brakes are a ton better probably bc it only weighs 200lb, and it was nice and solid, literally goes where you THINK you want to go, like all 125's

compared to the ktm, i honestly dont see how they can call the cr a 125, my 09 makes them feel like an 85

Thanks for the info twosmoke, looks like I'll be playing with the sprokets a little. I did forget how much fun a 125 can be!
