To go buy a new scooter Woohoo
Need some help deciding what to get. Currently riding an '08 YZ450f and I love everything about it except the carb. Been a loyal Yamaha rider my whole life but now I find myself considering an orange bike. So what do you guys think? I'm also seriously considering a 250f. I mostly ride tight trails and desert, sometimes a little MX.. Thanks for the input!

Honestly they've all got incredible perks to them. You cant go wrong with any of Em in my opinion. It's just what you like best about each brand. Congrats

Sounds like you are a versatile rider, so you need a versatile bike. I've always thought the KTM 350XCF is probably the most do it all bike made. Great woods weapon, not too big, not too heavy and not that much different from the SXF so it would make a suitable moto mount for all but a pure moto rider.

First off, if you have a local dealer that will give you a parts deal and a good price, go with them. All the bikes are VERY good anymore.
Second, I agree with Sir Roostalot, except, i'd go with the SXF version.

Got off a 2006 YZ 250 that was perfect right out of the box onto a 2013 KTM 350XCF. Since 2006, it seems the Yamaha's have had the best suspension stock. My KTM was love at first ride, EXCEPT for the suspension, it sucks. For the riding you do, I say get a KTM if you have a good dealer, and MONEY left over for the suspension (love the e-start). If tight on funds, either YZ would be a good choice as you roll them home, prep them (all new bikes should be home prepped) and ride the wheels off of them.

I went Orange back in '09 and haven't considered any other color since. I love my '14 FE 450, but the SX-f 350, might be right up your alley. Then again, if you're light enough and are a die hard Yamaha guy, the '15 YZ-f 250 seems to be a damn good bike.

IMO--450 to 450 keep the 2008. new 250f and/or switch to two stroke is a good choice. FI is not that great. Congrats, I got the green light myself a couple of weeks ago :-)

Haha... FI isn't great ? I hope you're kidding. That's one of the most improved things that today's bikes have over the '08 era. I had an '08 Honda 450 that was the last year of carbs, before I bought my '14 FE 450. NIGHT AND DAY better bike, IMO.

QUESTION- when you guys say " I got the green light" , are you saying that your wife said it was OK to buy a new bike ? Does she go to work everyday and pay all the bills ? Cause if you guys are the ones paying the hills, I'm not clear on why you have to "get the green light" .... Tongue this coming from a guy who has been divorced for 22 years and makes his own decisions. Lol

Dude, I had to promise my wife I would take her somewhere tropical if I got a new bike. It's about keeping her happy at the end of the day. I'm injured now and can't ride for the rest of the year, so today she said, why don't you just sell your 14 and buy a brand new 15 when you're healed? I'm seriously in love with this woman!!! Cool

First off, good for you man. Regardless of what you choose, that's rad as shit the warden allowed you to open up the check book.

All I can say is REALLLLLLY look at a 2
stroke. Any 2 stroke. New,used, whatever. Not only are they a BLAST to ride, you just can't beat the maintenance cost. I blew up my 03 rm 250 yesterday and to be honest it didn't even phase me. Ill throw a new top and bottom in it, and with labor I will be out the door for 250-500 less then what a new top end would cost you with the 4 banger.

Saving money will give you points with the wife while you are having a blast! It worked for my wife.

Once again congrats man, stoked for you

My dad bought a '13 KTM 300EXC last year, and that thing is a blast to ride. Does everything really well straight out of the box, and like moscrop940 said, you can't beat the maintenance costs compared to a 4 stroke.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas, really like the thumpers but I know that 300 is a beast too... I'll have to look into that!

Hard to argue against this bike - one of the best 250Fs ever.

Surely you have heard the old saying "if momma and happy and nobody happy" I have to make tradeoffs all the time. Get different bikes, house needs new windows etc. There is always a trade off. Also, another saying. half the money and all the p*ss*!!

PS We don't get to make our own decisions. This coming from someone married 25.5 years (married at 17)
