Number 1 goal to accomplish on a dirt bike?

Edited Date/Time 10/25/2013 2:55pm
Title pretty much says it. Could be learning to ride a slow wheelie, throwing a good ol whipperdottile, racing in a big or well known race. For me its gotta be the whip. I think it would be the sweetest thing to be able to just throw the bike over and and bring it back. Hopefully safely Tongue

To have everything come to me second nature. It will, just getting as much seat time as I can.

To make it home in one piece.........and be able to say " What an awesome day of riding I had with my buddies.....and I'll be sore as hell tomorrow....but in a good way "

You just can't beat it.

x2 on the whip. I can throw little ones, like the one in my profile pic, but I want to be able to throw it like I can on a BMX bike.

For those of us that are retired from the sport I will offer what I wish I had done differently. I wished I had spent a LOT less time worrying about how fast my bike was and modifying it, less time worrying about how cool I looked, and a LOT MORE time worrying about how I could perform better on the bike and more time working on making me faster, vs. the bike faster.

#1 problem I never worked on and was my biggest enemy was holding my breath. Arm pump by lap 3.
#2 problem was tweaking my bikes to the point of having such a narrow powerband it was useless to anybody besides only your fastest professional (and scary at times for an amateur).
#3 assuming my fitness (which was good) was good enough.
#4 assuming my riding techniques were spot on.

I guess short version, I wish I had focused on me instead of my bike and gear. You can have a badass bike with rad gear and still ride like a squid. You can't buy talent or speed.

At the moment to complete six laps at the Hattah Desert race in Australia.

It is a 8 x 38-40km per lap sand race that takes the Pro racers close on 4 hours to complete.

Have completed 5 laps twice, was probably close to being on pace the first time I competed in the full Iron man race but a puncture on lap three cost me a good ten minutes, this year in my second attempt at the full race I came in way to unfit, not training or limited riding leading up, the final two laps were torture.

My number one goal for riding next year is to get six laps completed, only get lapped twice! Just for the record less than 20 riders out of over 200 that start the iron man class have finished on the lead lap in the past two years.

Last year the last rider to finish on the lead lap was none other than Ben Townley in his first attempt.

It's incredible how fast the pros can lap riders. . . Almost demoralizing. But since we're all out there for fun I don't get too worked up over it.

I've never broken a bone in my life and every time I leave the track in one piece, I'm feeling pretty good. My weakness is going race speed for an entire race. We race 1 hour and one lap 4-5 mile races.

At 50, this old boy is over hucking big gaps. I'd love to be able to shred through corners, though.

That, and what jeffro503 said.

Everytime I finish a race or practice day and I have not hit the turf, that's a good day!!

But yeah, throwing a fat whip off a big jump would be up there on my "Wish I could do" list. Cool

My dream would be to ride full-time, get signed by a racing team, not having to worry about the bike, get a bit money from your sponsors to survive.
Just ride every day, every week, every Year,.... If i could accomplish that in my life, that would be my Dream (and im working hard that it becomes reality!)

But my first Goal is better cornering and getting a clean riding style

To be able to sprint (my sprint pace) for 3 hours ( full 100 mile hare and hound). No arm pump, no blisters, no leg cramps...just ride all out for 100 miles...and be able to function after the race.

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet.

Golf course.
Done it. Not that great. Grass is really slippery. I was able to make a pretty nice jump, but without a peaked take off it wasn't too much fun. The sand pits aren't very deep either, still fun though.

The worst part is that you can't enjoy it too much because you have to get out of there pretty quickly before any cops show up. I figured it would be better to leave before they show up than when they show up. Tongue
