The Ramblers races were cool. Pure local for me and where I learned to and spent a lot of time riding until they closed it down. There were about 100 people at the first one. Looked next to me and DeCoster was standing at my elbow with his wife. I crapped.

Got pretty big over a few years. The clubhouse is still there and the Ramblers exist, but no riding at The Point. There's a pic of Lackey at an early race here. http://www.wsmchof.com/brad-lackey.html#

Rode Maico's and rode the claimed Marty Tripes Factory Honda for a bit.
check out this little story about him and the bike.
http://www.vintagefactory.com/marty_tripe.htm
I think I've probably told this story on here before. 4 or 5 years ago I had this guy from a company that builds heating elements come over to my shop to look at building a new element for one of my machines. He saw a piles of jerseys or shirts sitting on a table and knew I was involved with the motorcycle industry. He starts telling me he used to race and had a works Honda that he raced a few times. I figure oh great, here's that guy that always stops to talk at the gas station because he used to ride for Honda. The he tells me that his friend John claimed it, I knew the story already. It was Jerome Heiberger. He said he didn't ride much anymore but was racing mountain bikes.

This thread has been great, a couple more names from the way back machine I didn't catch, Jim Turner, Danny Turner, not just Billy Grossi, but Bob, too, Bill Johnson, my buddy Rich Wilson. The Labor Day races at Argyll had a real north south battle feel to them for a couple years. It was a great time to grow up moto, especially in the coastal hills tracks in winter and spring. Didn't keep up with it much after the early 80's
Let me throw you some more.... Mark Green, Chalma Roberts, Arnold Plant, Pat Wilson, Jimmy Graham, Jim Fisk, Jimmy Robertson, Big guy on Huskys back in helvetia days... Rogers and Tadpole

Dude, the Silhaneks are practically family!! His pop Big Al, i loved that dude!

Just a few weeks before i got hurt, Jeff and i were riding out at Hollister and a guy was filming us hitting this table jumping side by side. The guy offered me a copy of the tape and i blew it off like, why would i want that? I would kick myself right now if i could!
Hey Scott I just talked to Allen and he said to say hi. I told him about this thread.

Machine what is your real name? You can PM me if you want.

FactoryPhoto ? might know you, can you forward my e-mail address to McKenna, if so pm me.

Sondy, I don't know you but met your dad from Jan Houtermans of Euro-Cycles. Both good guys, if there was a Golden State series or Trans-Cal again I'd find a bike and a rider to put on it just to go racing again - my "wrenching" went a lot bigger than my racing! Oh and Eric might have been a prankster, or he was trying to swoop you.

There is a "LOT" of national level names from Nor-Cal, saw some of the oldest, Lackey, Kevin Henry, somebody forgot Dave Longor and Bob Grossi. I got to work with McKenna, Randy Losh & Randy Pockrandt but latter with Jerome Hieberger and even a couple races with Rodney Smith. All realy good guys, lots of fun times - can't say fun times without thinking of Allen Burlutti, ok an endless supply of funny stories (some not so funny) tied to Allan. Don't post much but this thread is far-out, thanks to all who’ve posted and "HI" to all the riders mentioned even If I don't know you

Almost forgot Joey Shlag - KTM USA team in 1982, Donny Cantaloupe, Joey Shlag and John Finkelday.

Andy - if you read this far see how fast you can post 40 local pros names, I know there in your head.

Norcal has a hard time with the lack of free riding now it's so expensive to ride everyday like we used too. I grew up riding with Danny Paladino Pete Piantindia Rodney Smith Joey Shlag and a ton more fast guys at The Antioch pits, Oakley sand tracks, my dads track in Brentwood and the hills next to concord "Erope" and the best one was sewer ponds in Martinez. Haha!! But now days kids ride prepped tracks and they don't know what it's like to just free ride in Norcal. And I beleave it's the reason Norcal has suffered with talent.

No worries Andy, I didn't think they were old enough to make the list. If you're going to list the younger pros, there are lots more that could be added.

Andy - that's far-out man, you rule, way cool. You Zeissler twice, not to worry. No Star Needham or Dave Woods. Way cool though, this thread deffinatly is the D36 expert role-call. I didn't know Jimmy Robertson had a fat-ass...... has he gotten older like the rest of us.

Jimmy was a chubby little fella on an 80 back in the day..... Thank god they made 100's......Him and Wilson had some good battles if i remember right.

Jimmy transitioned very well to a 250, and went quite fast.
