I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I think that it's a load of bullshit what KTM did to Travis Preston... NFM

KTM is a schizo company. You look at their bikes, and they're the only ones I see that really look like they're designed and built by dirt bike nuts. And then their race teams are constantly doing goofy stuff to their riders. Remember all the controversy about Mike Alessi's shock? A freakin' SHOCK? Sometimes they remind me of the old days when the CZ factory would measure the knobs on Decoster's tires and say, "One more week, boys, and then we change tires."

As a general rule, it'd be considered bad form to take suspension components from your factory bike to, say, and independent suspension guy for disassembly and examination.

Hypothetically, if something like that happened, your team would probably start wondering if they could trust you with the engine in your practice bike...or any of the other components.

I feel bad for TP. He should have never been in that situation of riding for them. It's too bad FC didn't have money for him in the budget a couple of years back when they only signed Windham.

I like Preston. I hope he ends up back in the sport somewhere..he is good people.

It probably was a bad idea to do that, but it was a worse idea to let the world know about it. I don't keep any kind of stats on it, but I'll bet KTM has had more controversy between their team and their riders than all other teams put together. And I'm sure they've had more gripes between their dealers and KTM USA than all the other brands combined. And then you look at their bikes, and they're clearly built by people who love dirt bikes - top quality controls, chains, rims, bars, grips, tons of power, really top-notch materials. It's like they have one culture for those who build the bikes and another culture for the people who run the company. At least, that's how it looks to an outsider.

I'm not sure that was while at KTM. But this is all hypothetical anyway, right? Wink

Well, I doubt it would have happened had he been putting in really good results.

Hard to put in good results when the bike is a deathtrap and you're injured all season.

Yeah, it's a shitty thing, and OVER THE LINE! Who did it though, the guy that kept telling him, "oh we're sending a bike etc?" Lame deal, but like matthes said, it happens a lot. Even in other action sports. Actually, one action sport athlete paralyzed himself from the neck down in attempts to redeem himself after being let go of Van's Shoes in 2007.

All I remember is Mike Alessi had his best yr ever on a KTM. If you put James Stewart on a KTM it would be the best bike on the track.

I think its more about Preston sucking than the bike being a death trap. 100% rider 0% bike.

I don't agree with that, in his interview he had a chain break going off the face of a jump which caused him to get hurt. Everytime he got hurt it was because the bike had a mechanical failure.

To say he sucks as a rider isn't true, for gods sake he won a main on a Husky!

I like TP and wish him the best but do you think the chain that broke was a KTM chain?
I don't know what brand of chain he was running but I can assure it was nothing special that was exclusive to KTM.

All this KTM hate stuff amazes me.
