So this past Sunday I bumped up to the novice class in over the hill gang racing. I had won every moto in the beginner class and no longer felt challenged. That and riding alone in a "race" isn't very fun. The track was hangtown and I was pretty darn nervous,my heart was pumping just sitting on the line before moto 1. Didn't get a great start but avoided carnage, guys on the inside came together and i see a bike flipping and a body on the ground. Rode my own race and got seventh out of twelve keeping it on two wheels. Moto 2 I was much more calm and confident yet made a few mistakes early that could have put me on the ground, the track was dry and rough. Settled down and made a few passes, two legit and one gimme due to a rider crashing. All in all it was an amazing day and I stayed safe which is all that truly matters. Nothing and I mean nothing can replicate or replace racing. I absolutely love it and now I know where I need to improve on. Fitness and corner speed. Long story I know but felt like sharing.

I thought it was cool, thanks for sharing ! I haven't raced in 35 years so I'll be nervous as hell myself, hope to get to Unadilla.

The point is some people on this forum actually ride dirt bikes, not just talk shit about the guys that race them. Wink

Yo JS7bro, did you ever get that cylinder back for your bike? I remember a while back, that an engine guy had your stuff for a long time, then moved to another state. You pulling holeshots with that cylinder?

Glad to hear that you made the next step! Riding with guys that are faster than you is the best way to get faster yourself, in my opinion.

Ride safe and have fun!

That is awesome dude, great to hear about guys getting out and racing themselves, that is a huge part of why we love the sport like we do.

Good to see you stepping up into another class to challenge yourself

Glad you had a great time. You west coast guys are very fortunate, we get done with massive snow now we have all this mud and rain to deal with. I enjoy reading guys race reports, you know the guys that actually ride.

Great post! Made it to hangtown the first year Stew was on his Suzuki, track look tough and seems like it can get rough. Congrats on bumping up to novice, ride on dude.

What was more rewarding, winning Beginner, or 7th in Novice?

I'll be at the next round at Estreet. It'll be my first over the hill gang race, how's the turnout in each class? Would love to race against more than 2 people in the 30 expert.

Yea it's more rewarding to get in a class where guys are relatively just as fast. Makes for some fierce fun racing.

7th in novice hands down. Racing with these guys is gonna make me better and that's what I want. Funny I can do all the jumps which not everyone in my class does, but lose time in the corners. Unfortunately no pictures, if someone on the othg site post some I'll share.

I put in a bunch of laps there fri / private ride day mostly on my rm.

And finaly very cool.... The OTHG ran a memorial/ parade lap for a fallen member (not MX related)

Keep on keeping on.

You could not find a better club to race with than the Over the Hill Gang MX. The Bay Area Chapter does a great job up there.

Right on, half of the battle in the novice class is staying upright and avoiding all of the carnage. Be careful out there and good luck.

Nice! I just earned the promotional points at the final round last season to move up to the Vet B class. I'm a bit nervous about how that will go but excited at the same time.

It's refreshing to hear stories about members riding their dirt bikes. After all, isn't that why we're all here?
