According to Steve Matthes there are some new rules in the 250 class.
"New rule in 250SX has passed. 4 years of minimum points needed until u move up from 3 (Marty's back!) & no matter what u can defend title" -@pulpmx on twitter.
What's your thoughts?

Personally I think they should allow Mookie to race 250s another year, no doubt he definitely ended up making less money this year than he would have had he been eligible for 250s again.
Currently if you won a title in your first year of 250 SX competition, you were allowed two more years (the Trey Canard rule), if you win your second year...you were allowed to defend once. If you won in your third year or more (4th, 5th, 6th, etc) and had passed the points threshold, you would be bumped. Which is what happened to Broc Tickle while he still had a year on his contract with Pro Circuit....sorta the same with Jake Weimer, Wil Hahn, Malcolm Stewart.
I'd have to check, but I think the rule might've been you were bumped if you won the title third year or more regardless...like Malcolm Stewart.
Either way, I think it's a good move to add the ability to always defend the title once. If that was the case, Malcolm Stewart would still have a ride this year to defend the title. Many of the riders that win at that point in their career would probably still like one more year on a 250 to be the guy and defend, hopefully getting another solid year before going 450. Plus, the manufacturers will love it because they can better market a defending title winner when they're still on a 250 (especially if they defend on the same coast with the #1 plate).

Usually they've been bumped for titles.
This was posted on Martins instagram back in January.
Any truth to this?
Just kidding man, I couldn't help myself!
