As a kid who has always had to work hard and pay for my own bikes I hate seeing that. What a pathetically wasteful government we have. Disgusting really.

Pretty dumb if you ask me. Why wouldn't they auction them off and use the cash for something in the dept?

Now oil and shiz is probably going to drain into that body of water.

Also, I am not really sure how effective this will be for deterring wheelie boyz. As most of the bikes are probably stolen or purchased with unearned funds.

All those bikes and I bet not 1 of them has a good rear tire...

Hard to watch! NYPD is probably out of control, I really have no idea though.
Unlimited budget, unlimited authority.

If I was their I probably would have been crushed to death trying to save some of the nicer bikes.

Over 1 billion a year to pay off lawsuits for police misconduct. Even accounting for the BS lawsuits, that's still enough to make you cringe.

If the NYPD is trying to illustrate their collective stupidity, then MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! YOU WIN!

These street riders are very quickly building public hatred against dirt bikes!

Fuck NYPD, lots of deserving people who could have used those bikes, or even the parts. Not to mention the owners probably want them back. Complete waste, kind of like leaving a full plate of food and just throwing it in the trash, just disgusting what those bastards are doing.

I know plenty of kids around here who would have loved to have one of those bikes. Such a waste of resources.

The worst part is that they further the image of the motorcycle as the villain, not the punks who are riding them in the street. They do the same thing when they melt down firearms. Blame the inanimate object and those of us who are enthusiasts enjoying them in a harmless way share some of the guilt by association.

Stupid.

So they created a public execution of consumer goods that citizen's used to break the law with... wow. NYC politics are f-d.

I am surprised there's so much agreement here.

I think it's nice they would like to do something about this problem instead of let it happen a la Baltimore. I haven't seen the bikes confiscated but it might be that the VINs are gone so the rightful owner can no longer be found, nor can the bike be sold. Also, the amount they'd get for such bikes likely isn't worth the cost and potential legal liability for selling them.

I've heard that, while most of these bikes are stolen, they are frequently sold at a low price by the few thieves out there doing the "work". This could have the effect of cooling that market down if the "buyer" knows that his $600 will be run over. Or if he won't be able to illegally ride it on the street.

I am not sure it's the "right" strategy since I don't have all the facts but I am happy they're trying to do something to stop it instead of nothing.

Useless bureaucrats who are unaccountable to anyone and trying to look like they are doing something useful. Sad part is they probably spent more for the "photo op" than they could have easily recovered by auctioning them off as mentioned above. Also were all of the serial #'s traced to see if they were stolen and the rightful owners given the chance to recover their property? Sad example of big government run amok. "We have rules, this ain't nam....."
It is a difficult responsibility after all;

Guys, this is just their way to show the public that they are doing something about the wheelie boys. The fact that what they are doing means jack or shit is irrelevant.

They don't have a fucking clue how to stop the problem (without stirring up other issues), but they have to appear to be doing something.

And hey, if you are selling a used bike in the NY area it just became more valuable haha.

LOL

A new pipe and straighten the subframe and #22 is good to go. I bet the ones underneath are less damaged than most of the crap on craigslist.

Rank stupidity. I am guessing they didn't get the reaction they were hoping for.

I would have ponied up 10 grand for those bikes, maybe more and pledged to part them all out and not sell to anyone in the state of NY......Now that would be a better way to go....Of course then I would be guilty of selling stolen property as they are all stolen........

Hopefully horrible things happen to everyone involved in crushing those bikes. When a bureaucrat dies an angel gets its wings.

Your correct, that did absolutely nothing and will more than likely have the exact opposite effect.

The people they confiscated the bikes from stole them in the first place so they could give two shits if you run them over. They have more than likely stole another bike from someone else already and are planning a huge ride through the city as a big old fuck you to the man......

They should have returned the bikes to the rightful owner or sold them to help a charity.

Stupid decision made by some bureaucrat.

I bought some forks off a guy the other night, he was telling me he just recently had one of his bikes stolen and the other partially torn apart (the fork donor bike)...

Pretty crazy, security gate, 6 flights of a carpark, storage den, storage cage, locks... and gone.

Even crazier, the police got partial plates and the make/model of the car and wouldn't chase it. Dirt bikes aren't important to cops. Wonder if they know what the RRP is?
