Hello all , I recently have been looking into getting another bike and getting back into the mix of things So here is my question.

I found a guy selling a 2005 rm250 this bike was owned by Darrel Hurley super cross champion it was his practice bike it has rg3 suspension , after market bars , triple clap , v force , excel rims , bills exhaust full , probably more stuff I forgot , the bike is in nice condition , I never bought one of these bikes owned by a person like this is this a good idea? do they beat there practice bikes to hell? , no signs of it at all...the bike has no tittle and no vin I could find looks powered coated frame could be factory , is this a good bike to buy please post why or why not. ps the top end has never had a wrench on it .

The price I can get this bike for is $1900 to high or am i robbing him?? comments and detailed help is greatly appreciated

Not a pro, but I think $1900 for a 05 RM in good shape stock is a pretty good deal, let alone all of the other goodies you listed. I'd buy it.

Of course, the racers will all tell you to save your money and buy a 4 stroke if you plan on racing.

The RM250 sounds like a pretty good deal.

That is easy. The RM 250 2 stroke. THe little F has been massaged and worked over and the cost to maintain and fix it is astonimical. More HP with the 2 stroke and it comes with all sorts of good stuff. Look at rebuild cost for the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke and go from there. The only logical choice is the 2 stroke. Lot of people make bad decisions though

Buy it. If you are worried about a title go on ebay and buy a rm250 frame with a title.

hes a Australian rider super cross,

the top end has not been off I was told because , the pro rider only rode the bike for practice a few times and then this gentlemen bought the bike and had kids and it sat only being rode a few times , now that all could be lies and this bike could of been beat hell and back but even if it needed gears clutch plates $70 buck fix and a new top end rebuild $200 other then that What else is there really to worry about..

how do I know if its really his practice bike?

why does it not have a vin any were on the bike?

could I resell this bike with out the title and what would some one pay ?

Plain and simple? I wouldn't buy a bike without a title.

So.....by your Location your in Florida? How did a SX Australian riders bike get here???

Bikes WO a title is a common question. A large % of MX bikes do not have a title. Often people buy them from out of state and do not pay state taxes and title fees.....no title. Often a bike is financed......and sold before the loan is paid off so they do not give the title with it.....no title. Your saying the bike came from Australia so there will not be a Fla title.....no title.

Another commonly asked questio is where is the Vin # on a bike thats frame has been power coated. The PC covers the number.....sand down the PC where the vin is and you will find it.

Other have stated that this year and model bike with those mods.....at that price is a good deal.....what more do you want to hear???

If I recall Hurley rode for Paul Lindsey-Motoworld on zooks . Pro's practice bikes do get hammered tough, check to see if everything is tight and the frame not repainted at high wear areas and look around the welds. If it looks good I would buy it.

Buy the bike. Ride/race it for 2 years. Part out the goodies, and throw the frame in the trash, you will make all your money back, and a little extra for Mother.

There are so many good used bikes out there . I would not touch any thing with out a V.I.N number on the frame. With that V.I.N number I would want a ownership or a paper trail back to the original sale from the dealer when it was new.

V.I.N.

Just saw a guy lose his bike last week. "Clear title".

Suspect any bike that seems to have "lost" the original VIN die-stamp.

I would buy it without a title, but it should have a VIN #. And get a bill of sale from the seller with their driver's license number or something on it.

He also won an AMA SX race as well.......another mudfest in San Fran I believe.

As for the vin, if the frame is powder coated you won't be able to see the vin unless you sand it off, however you can look for the serial number on the crancases as well and go from there. If you're really only going to buy a bike to ride MX then not having a title shouldn't be that big of a deal as long as you can get the seller to leave all personal info and a written statement putting him on the ringer if it comes back "hot" If he has no problem doing that it is likely not stolen but if he seems apprehensive then it may be suspect.

I have a bike that has no title but checked w/ the DMV and it's not stolen the douche I bought it from just never paid off the loan, it's a backup bike I got for real cheap! Easy way to fix it is to get a frame that is legit and swap them out.
