MXA always picked on David back in the 80's but the dude was fast. In fast he was fast enough to win 3 World 500 MX titles and probably would have won a couple more if not for injuries. He may not have been the most stylish of riders but the guy was legit.

David raced in the heyday of Honda works bikes and got to ride some of the trickiest motorcycles ever produced.

At the 85 MXDN David smoked the World's best having by far the best day of any individual at the event.

David always had his father as his mechanic. In 89 David took the world title for Factory Honda but Honda insisted that David have someone else be his mechanic for the 90 season. As a result David took his #1 plate to team Kawasaki for the 90 season.

For the 90 season Kawasaki decided to run a Works KX500 using the all new perimeter frame of the KX250. The problem with a perimeter design is that it has very little room for additional fuel so at the early rounds the factory team ran this ridiculous tank with a ball busting addition to the top of the tank.
