'Must visit' mx shops in SoCal?

12/11/2014 12:42am Edited Date/Time 12/11/2014 2:31pm
Hi guys

I am over in CA this coming Feb to ski Tahoe, and have five days in LA at the end of the trip.

What bike-related places should I check out? Pro Circuit? Any particularly good bike/accessory shops around LA? It would be great to do some shopping.

Any recommendations welcome!

Thanks

Pro Circuit and Troy Lee are close together, and well worth the trip, Chaparell is further out but worth the trip, and Malcolm Smith Motorsports is just off the same freeway and worth a look as well,

Chaparell is a must! Until you have seen it, you will just not understand the size of it.

Scott_nz and Paw Paw are 100% correct, and also check out the Fox Racing store in the front of their building in Irvine, and it the opportunity to get into Tom White private museum somehow happens, GO THERE!

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but does anyone know if Roland Sands' shop has a shop/retail area that's open to the public. I love the stuff he builds and would kill to see his place if I was ever out that way.

All Great shops for sure, and if you want to see another Big shop (literally), might as well check out Bert's in Covina

Chap for a regular moto shop, on steroids. Tld is awesome for nostalgia, then pc for some of that too.

Bert's Mega Mall has a great selection of gear and bikes as well. I enjoyed shopping there.

Ditto on Tom White's museum- he has an awesome collection.

I'd recommend a visit to Chaparral, and at the same time stop by Milestone MX park (they are 14 km apart).
If you go on a Wednesday in Feb you will probably get to see some pros on the supercross track.

While it is huge, the experience of shopping there ranked right up there with a trip to the local Wal Mart. Pro Circuit? Just wow at the bikes, but buying a few bits from the dumber than a box of rocks kids at the counter failed to impress. You would think these places would have people who might be interested in actually working there. It was a decade ago though.....maybe it's changed.

The new Fox facility was just damned amazing when we went a couple years ago. Getting a tour of that place was a definite treat and the employees working up front in the store were as pleasant as could be. Just don't go in drunk and sit on the bar stools at the counter!Laughing

If you get over to the west side, check out Century Motorcycles in San Pedro. http://centurymotorcycles.net/
This is one of those mouse-drag panos> http://centurymotorcycles.net/photos/c_pano_01.html

More of a shop where time is on hiatus. It gets used as a set location a lot. Funky old machines everywhere. If you are nice and bring beers, they might let you behind the counter where there are notes and flyers all over from races way back when. It's dirty, raw and gritty. Perfect.

Don't go to fmf! It's in Compton and they don't have a showroom or anything to look at. I was hoping for something like pro circuit but it was just a warehouse.

RSD has a retail shop with some really cool bikes on display inside. Not huge, but still a cool spot to check out. If you go on a weekday I'm sure they'd let you have a look out back to see some of the bikes in the work shop (unless they're building something that's not supposed to be seen)

They hold events and bike rally's quite often on weekends, follow them on social media to find out when

Went to Anaheim last year with the kids. Pro Circuit and TLD were really cool. Try not to drive towards Corona at noon or later. Agree on the dumb kids at PC. My 6 year old twins loved the rc cars they had at PC.

Agreed.

From someone who commuted through the heart of Corona ( the 91 FWY) everyday for 2 years, the optimal hours of getting in and out are between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. An hour before or after is a gamble, and past that it is a shit-show of epic proportions

If you make it to Orange County, the Oakley HQ is pretty cool to check out.
