I believe the factory supported teams, such as Two-Two, lease their bikes from the factories, and get the factory parts and whatnot. They always talk about how the Chaparal Honda team leases their bikes for Andrew Short from Factory Honda. I assume then that they have "access" to the factory parts and info. This really is a good idea for the Factories too.. when someone on a factory leased bike does well, it looks good for them, and they didn't have the pay out the cash.

It use to mean the OEM supplied you with bikes and parts. Now it means you buy bikes and parts from the OEM. Things change.

buying bikes and sometimes parts, at a discount.
and most times, only a certain amount of bikes, not as many as you want.

I have a feeling we are going to be seeing a lot more KTM's in the results next year around 10th-20th and many years after that. Yamaha is disappearing and seems to be throwing in the towel....especially if they lose JGR.

Factories are leveling the playing field with this new trend in leasing works bikes. Its becoming and going to be new way of buisiness for them

I made a thread on this leasing end of the factories business model a while back. It seems like the most logical step for an OEM to take in this economy, imo.

5150? They've got a Title Sponsor...that's not a Bad Start.

As to those noting that there are Leased Factory bikes, engines, parts...etc.

JWR built their own bikes from off the shelf goods.

MotoConcepts is doin' Pretty Damn well...ON THEIR OWN.

JGR makes hardware that's BEYOND some of the works stuff...as does this guy in Carona...maybe you've heard of him...Mitch Payton?

Rockstar Suzuki Lites built there bikes and engines without ANY Factory Assistance.

The days of the Factory Team may be fading...and, then...again...maybe they'll be back...who knows?

Under the tent at Star/Valli there is always a factory guy hooked up to links on Sipes bike. I think you'll see a very good bike in 2014?
