Wow what a track! After going to Red Bud and Millville for the last 20yrs I can honestly say Millville has surpassed Red Bud. The green scenic valley, loamy dirt, multiple unreal elevation changes, huge uphill mega air jumps, downhills that pucker your asshole just watching, natural sand whoops, hundreds of great spectator vantages, great variety of food and beverage vendors, etc. The spectator turnout was amazing. I waited in line 30 seconds to get out for the drive back home. Martins Mountain restored my belief in the purity of the sport. Thank you John Martin. You gave our family the best family vacation I could have dreamed of.
The Shop
Happy for the martin family! They seem to deserve the success they are enjoying!
Fairly long wait for the ports cans for the girls, but otherwise couldn't fault it. Need to save pennies to get back for some more outdoor action next year.
Like the op said, it's in this wonderful green scenic valley with no other real civilization or cities around it. It's isolated. Hell, I can't ever get cell phone service while I'm there. Which, I actually rather enjoy. The dirt, the elevation changes, the hills, the people, the food. It all adds up to a wonderful experience and I'm glad I'm within a relatively short driving distance to attend every year.
I was chatting with a father and son yesterday just after we had both parked. We got to talking and I asked them if they were fans of the sport and follow the series. They said they kind of, so-so follow it but not really. And that they'll ride trails occasionally back home but not moto. And this was their first visit to Millville. So your average fan at best. Not guys that are hardcore fans like most us. I told them they'll have a better appreciation and respect after seeing it live today compared to TV.
I caught up with them after the race. I asked them how their day went and they said it was awesome. They were both genuinely impressed with what they had just witnessed. You could see it in their eyes and hear it in their voice. And that they couldn't wait to come back next year and likely every year after. So the sport just pulled in two more potentially life long fans. I was ecstatic to say the least to hear they enjoyed it so much and would be coming back in the future.
They were gonna stay the night and camp too. Wish I would've done the same. It prob. only added to their already fantastic day.
Props to the Martin family!
Bumper to bumper all they way to Rochester or Wabasha.... Gotta love that attendence..
Pit Row
