It's all entertainment. Nothing more. I doubt most of these guys know how many branches there are.
The Shop
Being a patriot down here is becoming contentious it seems, I love how you guys love your country and the people that serve it.
I honestly wouldn't have minded if, instead of showing any racing, the broadcast was entirely dedicated to telling us how important the military is.
Pit Row
They arent keeping us safe, they are making rich people richer.
You have every right to say that having served, i am afforded an opinion based on being one of those in industry watching people milking the system in the name of ' keeping us safe'.
I have studied and read a lot, i have long been of the opinion that a lot of these threats are created to serve a purpose, and history tells us that this has been the case for a long , long time.
One thing i do know, is that we are only told what they want to tell us and make us think. Jeez, if you look at the MX/SX paddock as a microcosm for the world, how much stuff goes on in the paddock that we never get told, how much of what we are told is actually right etc, just take the whole Stew saga.
People who dont realise that , and just blindly flag wave , are what lets these people get away with it.
But despite that i will always show respect for those in the services.
The editor/producer is the real culprit, here. The segment was IMO unflattering to the riders and the Military.
Politicians control what the military can do in a big picture sense, but just because you do not like what politician A decides to do, that does not change the fact that young men and woman volunteered to serve, for any number of reasons.
These appreciation nights are about those troops with boots on the ground. The unfortunate part though, the Military Pays for the appreciation nights, in every major sport. It is not done out of the goodness of the sporting authorities heart, be it supercross of NFL football. They would not have the night if the military did not pay them. A little hidden secret not many realize.
Side note: they did a holeshot challenge between guys representing 6 different branches and one guy almost looped out and two guys tangled leaving one guy looking pretty hurt. Probably the last time for that.
