Some of you have probably watched this already, but it's a pretty cool interview with Mike Healey by Sean Collier at Fasthouse. Very real & gritty. Mike has been down a dark path, but has come out of it and is living a clean life again. My hat is off to him. Lot of great GP stories.

My first experience of the GP's was a 125GP at a track in the UK called Hatherton Hall, a track I eventually got to race at many times, anyway amongst the GP guys one guy stood out to me due to his riding style and the Roxy riding gear. Mike Healey my favourite rider from when I first started in this sport.

Shame what he went through after his mx career stopped, but good to see him out the other side.

Great interview!! Wish it was longer or we could see it all....I remember Mike on 80's and then when he went to Cagiva on the 125, he would come out to the local Socal tracks and rip it up. He was the only damn jersey I couldn't get back from the day. Glad to see he is doing well and stoked on his new gig. He is a bad ass and one of my idols growing up!

My question is, is the Healey interview a "Part 2" of a longer interview...or is "Part 1" the Darryn Durham chat? I ask because it seems that when we enter the interaction on the Healey interview, we are coming in late into a conversation that has been going on for a while. Did anybody else sense that?

It was cool when the American military guys said "Don't worry, the locals wont fuck with you anymore." I also liked how he was riding really aggressive on the section of the velodrome track away from the spectators.

That was awesome, I was (and still am) a massive Healey fan I will never forget seeing him launch down the big hills at Foxhills at the 92 British 250 GP and when he rode a near stone stock CR500 for Ron Humphries ( UK Honda dealer ) at a 500 GP at Hawkstone park in 94 I think..... Can he leave the US after his stint inside???? I have a nice KX 500 I will let him race at Farleigh Castle this September if he's interested???? My brother is also building a Mike Healey inspired XR 400, like he raced for ims and talks about a little in that interview that could also be made ready for Farleigh.....

Stoked to hear you're all enjoying these interviews. Our goal was to produce a talk show/interview completely different than most in the current action sports/moto scene. We've got some big names on tap for the future. This show is going to be a regular deal so stay tuned!

Cheers!

Is he still living and working in California? Cos if he is, the next time I'm over there I'm gonna get my hair cut. What a legend.

I don't remember the year, but sometime in the 90's Healey showed up at the Seattle (SIR) round of pac-west or one of the other NW series. We were hanging out after the motos on Saturday and hear a bike hit the track. I look out to see him in shorts and a t-shirt (I don't even remember if he had a helmet) and tripling through a rhythm section that was rutted up to the pegs. During the motos my dad pointed him out and said "that's how you ride ruts." He was blitzing the track like it was freshly groomed when it was a slot car track.

I had 2 idols growing up... Bradshaw and Healey. Met Mike in 1990 in France when he rode KTM. I was racing the same day on a 80. It's also why I rode number 99 in 1999 because Mike rode with that number in his GP days...

He is exactly right, when you raced then can't for whatever reason ,and need that rush you once got on the bike you'll find it somewhere, and that somewhere can be a scarry place.

I believe he rode cagiva for a while. Pretty sure he was on a #38 125 at the hellish outdoor in Anderson SC in 87.

Brooks ran out of fuel leading i figured from dust so thick you couldn't see the fender and hot as a 4 balled tomcat.

I recall guys running strings on filter covers like tampons and pulling them off mid moto.

That was great to see Mike again and hear how he is getting on along with the great stories. Remember him well when he came to Europe and for the best of time kicked some serious ass!

He always had a very wild distinctive style; or so it seemed to me- especially when he was young- theres some great pictures circa 1980's on a load the NMA threads/ 'Bruce Bunch, Kyle Fleming, Rick Hemme' threads along with the other great young riders of that time....
In those pics, Mike always seemed to have the bike pinned, banked over about as far as it could be without crashing, foot out, on damn rails.
Think this kind of continued throughout his career somewhat, wild in many ways.

Its great to see he is doing good again, after 'falling somewhat down' and interesting to hear his viewpoints and stories
Always remember him and Bobby Moore- hard to forget and great memories watching them both along with the other guys who raced back then- (mainly in Europe for me).
Expect if Mike raced more in the US, rather than Europe, he may have have some very good U.S results also(not that his US results were bad!)
Think he in someways was abit like Magoo.

Great interview. Never really knew who he was but always heard the name. Kinda wish there were more interviews like this. The people that were kind of on the out skirts not just the people we all know and hear about ever time there is an interview with an older racer.
