While it is true that I live in the race car capital of the world....I have limited statements relative to 2 wheel news..... When it comes to 4 wheels the world is different. Mr. McGrath has recently been in a sprint car and looking like a million bucks! I am impressed!

Nice. Just jumping in one of those (with direct drive, no clutch, etc.) and giving it a shot would be a handful.

That's awesome news. I know Deegan tried a Midget for the Chili bowl in the past and to be honest, the Lucas Oil truck racing is a lot of sliding on banked corners so I always thought some of the truck guys would be pretty good dirt track oval drivers.

Any idea if he is looking to race, or was this a one off trial just for fun? Wing or non wing?

Check out MC's Instagram. There's a video on there.

Very cool. Takes a big set of testes to drive one of those things to the limit.

First dirt track race i ever attended was a USCS winged sprint event. My mind was blown. As soon as i sat down, single car qualifying started. My local RC car track owner drives in the series. He flat footed the entire session to set new track record and take the pole. Guy is bat shit crazy in that thing. Won the main, led from green to checkers. Might have lifted twice in lapped traffic. I will never forget that.

A few years ago, Chad Reed raced a late model stock at Hickory Motor Speedway. I never saw where he placed, if he even finished. Hickory takes an experienced driver and a near perfect car, or your in for a long night.

I also got to see Randy Hawkins drive a late model at Hickory.

Our family went to a lot of Sprint Car races at Eldora Speedway, New Bremen and Dayton Motor Speedway in Ohio and over in Winchester IN circa 1970. Dayton was a paved high banked half mile and Mike Mosely cartwheeled his Ford Cosworth powered car on the high banks and swore he'd never drive there again....and he didn't. Engine was 23K back then...think about that.

I went to the last Winged Sprint Car race at Ascot. Man they can stick those things in the corners!

I've always thought that motcrossers were more suited to dirt auto racing. Zach Ames was pretty good in a sprint car, but I don't think he had the money to keep it going.

From the GuyB archives. Yeah, I shot a little sprint car stuff at Ascot back in the day. I was also either a lot braver, or a lot dumber then, too. Wink

Good stuff! I'll always have a soft spot for sprint cars and oval track racing, since my Dad raced them and I grew up racing quarter midgets. Is he racing a season in sprint cars, or just driving it for fun?

I got to do 20 laps in a midget in Jan, holy hell that thing was funny! Almost as fun as the bike :p
It was surprising how controllable the power was, I really think MX helped a massive amount with throttle control, the sound is absolutely unreal as well!

I'm pretty sure MC could do pretty well racing, I saw Rico race over xmas too, he cleaned up...

13 years old into a 1200cc Mini Sprint. Best driving experience I ever could have gained by racing those the next four years. Unfortunately, instead of taking the route of perfecting driving skills, I should have took the route of racing something more in public view to have a career in oval track racing. These were the days when NASCAR was transitioning from picking top tier drivers, to picking drivers that brought sponsor money. Unfortunately not many corporate big wigs are at dirt track races, but Legend cars and Late Models they were.

This is how a mechanic and driver relation should be!

Local favorite MX competitor from the 70s here in Maryland and North of the Mason Dixon named Kenny Adams turned to 410 sprints after his Motocross career and was track champion at numerous tracks most notably Williams Grove and Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania. He was surly bad arse on both 2 and 4 wheels! .
