McGrath and Carmichael Collaborate on Track Design for Inaugural Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas

$1 Million up for Grabs on McGrath/Carmichael Inspired Race Track

AURORA, Ill. (June 17, 2011) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Ricky Carmichael, the all-time greatest motocross racer, and Jeremy McGrath, the all-time greatest supercross racer, will collaborate on the track design for the inaugural Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium October 15.

With a chance to win $1 Million, the Monster Energy Cup’s track design will be a hybrid between motocross and supercross that will be inspired by McGrath and Carmichael’s expertise. The two legends will begin developing their respective designs before making the trip to Feld Motor Sports’ headquarters to finalize the design.

McGrath earned seven Supercross class championships and 72 main event wins during his career.

“In my eyes, being creative is the key to creating this track,” said McGrath. “We see a lot of tracks, and I really want to make this something unique for the Monster Energy Cup. Not to mention that I am proud to be a Monster Energy-sponsored athlete and to be involved in this is right up my alley.”

Carmichael has a record 15 AMA National Championships, including five 450cc championships.

“When I heard about the $1 Million pursue and the race format – with three, 10-lap motos – my wheels started spinning, and I even thought about racing it,” said Carmichael. “The three stage format is going to open the door for a few surprises and with such a large pursue, there will definitely be some good battles out there. I cannot wait for this race – I wish it was tomorrow.”

After many years of doing battle on the track, McGrath and Carmichael will team up to challenge the world’s greatest riders.

“I have a ton of respect for RC (Ricky Carmichael), and I consider him a friend of mine,” said McGrath. “I have known him since he was very young and I believe together we can definitely challenge the current crop of riders. It will put us to the test but I think we can do it for sure.”

“To be able to sit down with someone like Jeremy and create a race track is going to be fun because we’ve spent so many years racing one another,” added Carmichael. “We have different styles, so this track is going to be very unique.”

“Our idea was to commission the greatest riders in the two disciplines, supercross and motocross, and design a track that is symbolic of the years of experience between these two legends,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of two-wheel operations, Feld Motor Sports.

An announcement will be made when McGrath and Carmichael make the trek to Feld Motor Sports’ headquarters and the meeting will be recapped in a series of video blogs.
