I know he hated the bike. And I know most thought it was just butt ugly, however being a KTM guy and also a MC fan I really liked the look of The King on a KTM. For all two races, that is.

I've Googled searched but I'm sure there is more out there. Probably from Tony Blazier. So if anyone has any pics of MC on a KTM please post them. I know he had the Bud Light graphics, the Hot Wheels graphics, sometimes orange fenders, sometimes silver fenders. I, personally, loved the silver with the orange. Quite a few variances considering he only raced the two World SX rounds, I think.

Anyway, if you have any please post them. Thanks!

I noticed the pipe also. I scrolled up to the see the other image and its still a PC pipe, at least that section. Clearly the header portion has been worked. Trick bike.

Is there any video of the actual crash? I've only read about it. He said the motor was the best 250 motor he had ever ridden... PDS I'm sure wasn't his favorite.

You guys always come thru...even at race time. Great pics!!

I love MC's KTM bikes. I love silver so really cool seeing the orange and silver combo. Very different. Thanks. Keep 'em coming if there are any more.

What bike (graphic wise) did he actually race in the 2 World Supercross GP rounds? He has the Hot Wheels then also the Bud Light but pretty sure he only raced two races with KTM. Is that correct?

McGrath raced the Hot Wheels bike. The Bud Light is in 2002 when he switched from Yamaha to KTM hence the reason he had those graphics on the bike. I don't believe he raced the Bud Light version only the Hot Wheels one. He raced it in Geneva, Switzerland & Arnhem, Holland. I believe he then got hurt getting ready for the 2003 SX season.

Looking at this old thread again. MC had such cool, different looking bikes, in particular his SX and RM bikes. Loved the silver/orange como.

Worse , it starts me looking for a 2003 KTM 250, so I can replicate his bike.

Wonder why he chose KTM since he hated the bike? Something different? They threw piles of cash at him?

Personally I think it's a great looking bike, the Bud Light one would be an awesome bike to try and replicate.

Purely speculation, obviously. but I think it's something that happens a lot with riders and bikes they don't care for that much. When they first ride/test it, they think, "Oh, it's not perfect, but it has some great qualities.. I can make it work." Then they get out on the track against their competition and the flaws are magnified at race pace. Just my thoughts.

EDIT: Oops, meant to quote Rockinar's post.

Legend has it that there was a full work pre-production model for McGrath and Langston that was actually good. Different chassis with linkage I believe.

It got shelved. MC got hurt and quit, Langston struggled on.

Yea, he confirms this in an interview with someone, I believe Matthes? KTM approached him with a works bike much more like the Japanese. New frame, rising rate linkage, etc. When it came time to go racing they weren't prepared and made him ride the production bike. He hated it and took his first chance to retire.

I haven't listened to it in years, the link is from 2009. Hopefully it's still good: RacerX Podcast with McGrath

Turns out he raced the Hot Wheels themed KTM at Round 1 of the World SX series (I believe because Switzerland banned alcohol related advertisements for sporting events) but was on the Bud Light KTM at the second round.

Regardless, the bike was only changed to a full time Hot Wheels motif after MC announced his retirement and Bud Light wasn't interested in sponsoring him for a opening ceremony retirement tour. Had he raced in 2003, Bud Light would have definitely been on his bike.

Oooooooooh Me Likey this one. As a KTM Fan (and my 06 300 shares this frame/body work) this is the best thing on Vital for a while!

Always loved the look of this bike. I echo what is written above about reading/hearing he loved the pre-production bike, and KTM's promises to have it ready for A1 2003... I think the tide had definitely changed by then however, and between Lusk catching fire, RC in his prime, Reedy's late charge in 03 (beating RC straight up 6 times), Windham picking up.. it wouldn't have been too good for The King even with the pre-prod KTM.

I have always wanted to find some footage of him riding this bike - anyone have a youtube link to those international SX rounds? Did he win, or place those rounds?

There's no footage anywhere it seems, of him testing/ripping the KTM.

To be fair, his 2002 Bud Light YZ is only bettered by Chad's 04, for most beautiful bike ever. Big Call!

Awesome reading about the King's time at KTM. Interesting to think about what could have been... Side Note: After watching above video crazy to think Rad Cheed is the only rider STILL lining up, just epic.

Ask thee and ye shall receive! Thanks mate, pretty cool watching him.

I wonder if Jeremy was watching the linkage equipped YZ's rip past and thinking hmm... bad idea...

Agreed on the Reedy comment above, he is a legend. Looks like a young pup in those videos! Right when he began to set the world on fire (if you consider the 'world' the 250cc AMA SX, and not already the 125cc SX and World MX).

I absolutely love the Bud Light KTM of MC's. I'm orange brigade so seeing The King on orange probably makes me bias but i also love silver which looks amazing with orange. It's, for sure, a very different looking bike but man, I dig it. The two different Bud Light bikes as well as the Hot Wheels one are both really cool.
