If you are a listener of his pod work, he has made it clear he's over the amatuerish nature of Moto and is going to move on. Not tomorrow, but won't be long.
Gonna suck when he's gone......

The Shop
He is done doing goggles.
But he will be apart of this sport for a long time.
Also, the dude seems to live and breath moto. I don't think he'll leave, but that's just me.
He just needs another rider that he can bond with and look forward to covering week in and week out like he did with the prankster RV. I mean, Nicolletti is great and Steves relationship with Coy Gibbs and the concrete eating guy are amusing too...but Steve needs to be close to a top 3 guy.
To be fair though, that guy has been going at it full throttle for years, so its not surprising.
I hope he sticks around though. He's been doing a better job at keeping us fans informed than any other moto platform or magazine. As a fan, I'd have far less insight and less idea about riders personalities without Steve's work.
In an industry where genuine journalism isn't encouraged, I think he does a great job and seems more fearless than most.
Even though he seemed to take the goggle deal to a new butthurt level you came out swinging with this one.
The Tim Ferry stuff and self promotion got old years ago, as well as the tiresome, blatant and amateurish product plugs during his show.
Jason Weigandt and his professional manner and method of presentation would be good to emulate.
Pit Row
Its more about the boredom and monotoney(sp) level not getting too high for Steve. Its why last year he was so high on Barcia being the guy to challenge RV in sx. He WANTED it to happen because Barcia challenging RV is more interesting from a personality standpoint then Dungey challenging RV.
One thing that I have enjoyed this year is when they included Jimmy Albertson in the weekly Racrex review podcasts. Like all new entrants to moto journalism Jimmy has brought a crisp honesty to his commentary.
I kind of miss the Ken & Mathes dynamic though.
Those two were great together. Ying & yang!
As far as him being 'professional', I think he's doing it just right the way he's foing it right now. Howard Stern was accused of not being professional enough throughout his career. Look where it got him. News is news, and you can get it anywhere on the internet. Steve provides entertainment, and finding somebody who has the personality, knowledge, and drive that he has would be very difficult. In fact I rarely listen to Stern anymore at all. Steve provides almost enough content now to get me through my weeks.
