Anyone had any luck racing an AMA amateur event on any Mid 70's-80's big bore bike? Have a chance to race a Maico 400 this weekend and don't want to show up and not be able to ride. Would enter it in the Open B class.

If you've never ridden a Maico Make sure that you learn the proper way to kick start it or you will break something!
Also make sure the owner has removed & cleaned the breaks! Maico's are famous for not having good breaks!
You just need to clean the all them f'n time!
You didn't say what year it is? Big difference between the GP or AW Maico & the Mag series Maico's, Just remember to make it grunt to go fast!
Are you sure it's a 400? Most likely a 490!
PM me the serial number & I'll let you know for sure!
If you need any info, let me know as I have a Manual for an 83' 490 pretty much the same bike!
83'/84' 490 info below.
Timing is 1.8 BTDC
Plug should be a NGK B9ES or a NGK B10ES.
Just a starting point for jetting
Stock jetting
Main 200
Needle jet 280
Pilot jet 65
Needle 4K2 clip position #2
My Factory Manual states that max HP of 56 is @ 6200! BELIEVE IT! the 83-86 Motors are Monsters if in good shape!
BTW: I do have some spare parts & a complete project 83'
Are you spying on me? That's the 2nd pic of me on my Maico that I've never seen before!
I was able to copy this one & save it!
Are you hiding any more pic's from me ?
Sadly I OJ'd a big table top and almost broke the steering stem off, it shoved the forks up until it hit my bars and blew oil all over the place. RIP
