Ok, so my son and I are headed to LL's this year just to spectate. No pressure, just father and son getting away and watching the event, and doing some sight-seeing to and fro in his Mustang. Plus for me is that he just got his license, so he is gonna get to do a lot of the driving! I've not been there since the 80's, so a few questions maybe I can get some advice on. Cell service... We use Sprint, and they told us their coverage there is "spotty" at best, so I figured I would grab a couple cheap flip phones, just need to know which carrier to pick. What are some good places to eat in Waverly? Hurricane Mills? Places of interest? Any advice is appreciated, maybe meet some of you there!

Dont forget sunscreen. I like to wear long sleeved white t shirts, it really makes it more pleasant when your not able to fry a egg on your arms. Why would you need to get two phones tho?

I usually roll in early and got some reception by the creek with ATT .... but once the people start packing in the service goes...... except up by the big rock.

There is a seafood restaurant by the Wallyworld in Waverly.

The days at the Ranch are very long. Its not a far car ride out to where you can call your cell and check for voice mails. I know, I know it is hard to do with out phones but its just one week a year!

Sun-screen, water, sunglasses, and a giant antenna for the cell.

Oh yeah, it's sticky hot humid. Bring a pair of trunks to jump in the creek.

Thanks for all the replies...anyone got a rough idea what golf cart rental costs? I heard the place has grown a bit over the years, and I'm 30 yrs older now, might be handy. See ya at the beer tent...

I think last year the golf cart rental was like $700 for the week. It was outragous but they didn't seem to have any problem renting them. I rented one locally for $200 and hauled it with me but I wasn't in a mustang Smile . I would suggest getting a set of 2 way radios. No need for cell service to reach each other. It's a fun week. Watch out for the "16 yr olds" on the pit bikes and golf carts as they tend to drive crazy.

Leave the phones in the car.
Then if someone steals your bikes you can't call the cops! Lol sorry couldn't resist.

The "Log Cabin" just off exit 143 has the best food in the area, that I have found.
Cissy Lynns store, just outside of the Ranch to your right, offers a pretty good breakfast.

We always bring our own cart, they rent them for $600 a week there.

The most important thing is a cart, it's miserable without one. Put a hitch on that stang

You should call the cops if you're paying $700 to rent a golf cart. That's insanity.

take a simple hand held am/fm radio. the broadcast the announcing on one of the fm stations and it is much better than trying to hear them on the loud speakers

Log Cabin is definitely a Loretta Lynn's staple. There's also a place by Wal-Mart in Waverly called Jen's Steak and Seafood that I've always liked, but never seems to be super crowded.

Cissie Lynn's Country Store across the street is awesome too. Their smoked turkey sandwich is on point for sure. Between the amateur national, ATVMX and GNCC at Loretta's, I'm pretty sure I've had about 50 of those sandwiches in the past couple of years.

Take a fan. Any kind of fan for when sitting around camp. It's amazing they work well with how humid it is.
