Fosnock running the #13......LOL

Wonder if he will show up in mismatched gear like he did when he beat some of the same riders, like brown, back in 89.

That would be so awesome, but brown has to be the favorite. Gets good starts, and is probably in better shape than he was in 89.
Look out. His gear matches and he will be wearing gloves too!

I don't care if his gear matches, but he'll be my new hero of he runs an open face with a Scott Venturi mask

The changes made to the LL vet classes Sportsman vs. Non Sportsman were a step in the right direction to encourage those discouraged to sign up against former "pros" and try to qualify. This will help LL have a better chance at full gates in the sportsman classes +30 and +45. However, it might work real well if the "Sportsman" classes were to be +25, add in a +35, and +45. Classes +30, +40, +50 can be for anyone who "ever scored an AMA Pro point in their entire lifetime", IF that's how we want to continue to arbitrarily choose to create some distinction in current day riding ability, even if they haven't raced a dirt bike in 10 to 15 years. The new problem is we are now forcing riders to race down 10 - 20 years in age if they have EVER scored a single AMA pro point. A 38 year old who scored 2 points 15 years ago now is forced to race 25 year old pro sport riders. Lets face it, going to LL to race 1 class is not really ideal due to usually waiting a full day or more before you get on the track between races, and then you get a single parade lap before hammers down. Compare that to the guy who ran his other class only hours before and you know what i mean about being warmed up with a fresh perspective on the track and the advantage. So running two classes is the ideal. So what 2 classes does the 45 year old who took 10 yrs away from mx, but scored 3 points, one season, 15 to 20 years ago try and qualify for? Obviously hes gonna sign up in +40 and run in the middle somewhere, maybe towards the front, against all the guys who have stayed active/maybe even had factory rides back in the day, cool cool, but then he is also gonna have to try and qualify in the +25 against a bunch of current pro sport riders just so he has a second class to ride at LL during the week long stay so he gets some track time. The point is, the structuring can still be made to be more appealing to more riders. I know a lot of vets dont want to have to race an Emig, a Dubach, a Carmichael, and so on, (even though many of us have without a single complaint)but there is a HUGE difference between guys like that who actually earned a living racing, and guys who scored a few points along the way as a privateer out of the back of their van. The true answer for the vet classes and trying to seperate them on skill level is probably going to boil down to qualifiers held at the regionals to determine what group (s) the rider (s) belong in. More work is needed in this area. Right now, those most intimidated by racing former "pro am" riders are having their way with the rule structuring with the +30 and +45 classes.

Meanwhile, since the rules are what they are, I am actually rooting for my buddy to kick butt in the sportsman classes this year because he hauls the mail, can run with many who have scored points before, but he just never had that one or two lucky days where he finished in the points back in his pro days. Im sure some whining bitch will be looking him up after the races looking to see if he ever scored points so they can protest him, but in his own words, he never lucked into any. Hoping the stupid rules play to his advantage, because whether youve ever scored a pro point doesnt mean anything about how often, how much, and how fast you ride at 45 yrs old.

Hey DC, you should assign your social media coordinator that lives near Fosnock to arrange an interview. He's got a fascinating story, I'm sure!

How's Carsten look these days?? Man I wish Tim Ferry would've committed to training to qualify this year like he was planning to. He'll still be there, but because his son Evan Ferry is racing.

No reason in the world they don't have a plus 30 former pro class. Not fair to true amateur riders that try to do this for a lifetime memory. I think it's really cool that these former pros come back to the Ranch but come on man !!!!!
Ah, nevermind

Brownie is definitely the alpha dog at the ranch this year, or should I say a man amongst boys. Literally Grinning Grewe strong as expected

Just a question:

How is Mike Brown an amateur? Isn't he still a professional rider for Husky? Nothing against Mike, he is one of my favorite riders, but it just seems weird to me.

I am listening now- how the heck is Kevin Kelly in a good mood 24/7? The guy is always "on."

Well, Brownie slayed the field in both classes as expected. Solid rides from Luke Vonlinger and Miguel Cordovez in 25+. Seth Rarick has to be bummed about that second moto, going 4-DNF-4. In 40+, Grewe was Grewe finishing right behind Brown for 2nd overall, followed by Nathan Ramsey, Barry Carsten, James Evans, then Buddy Antunez. How about Billy Fosnock coming out of the woodwork and finishing a very respectful 12th overall, one spot ahead of Lance Smail (who is still quite the ripper himself).

I'm pretty neutral on the whole debate about former pros racing against regular joes at LL.... However, with all the attention around all the big names that came to the ranch this year, I do think that adding a specific "Former Pro" class might inspire even more guys to dust off their boots and head to the ranch to prove they've still got it
