Long term effects from riding wheelies

Not being extremely accomplished in them myself, I was wondering what the long term effects were, particularly on the critical engine components, from riding in a constant vertical position. Is the engine getting proper lubrication in all areas? When you stand a street bike up, the oil light comes on almost immediately.

Depends where the pick up is for the oil pump. I have heard of both a CRF450 and DRZ400 blowing the bottom ends apart due to extended wheelies. You can get oil pick up relocation kits specifically for stunt bikes.

I haven't rode sport bikes since my kids were born. but rode wheelies on the street for a 2-3 miles at a time and never had any issues. Not even oil light coming on. Had everything from R6, GSXR 750's to a GSXR 1000. 10 lbs air in rear tire, 3rd gear, left foot on the rear peg. Wink

I've heard that there is a direct correlation between male sperm count and wheelie length

Don't know the insides of many mx and street bikes but surely most pick ups are near the back? Can't think of a situation that the engine would be under load and a front pick up would be beneficial?

I ride a DRZ 400 to work most of the year and mostly on the back wheel. 27,000 miles and haven't done anything but change the oil regularly. No problems from wheelies here.

On a 2 stroke, it's a non issue. See how two strokes are superior again?

They seem to umm...... "procure" lots of YZs and CRF's. So I'd say those two have good oil systems and can take the abuse.

Papa Wheely says wheelies are A-ok. Don't sweat it it's just a thing. Twist it and rip it, life's too short to not wheelie. Braaap !

DRZ's are bulletproof. I was on a wheelie for 5.6 miles and my buddy pulls next to me telling me to stop. All the engine oil was blowing out the exhaust and all over my rear tire. The thing still ran and pulled long distance wheelies for another year til I sold it

Worked on a couple cbr900rr's that went oil starved it was ugly. I would maybe run a little more oil maybe 75-100 cc's if I was planning on practicing wheelies all day. Things we never worried about with two strokes.

Spun a rod bearing and ate a valve on a newer r6 a few years ago while doing a wheelie.. Never grenaded a dirt bike doing a wheelie though - I have a 97' Z50 that lives on one wheel and never misses a beat

If you blow up the engine in your motocross bike from wheeling it too much.....you have more problems than just a blown engine....IMO.

Long term effects from riding wheelies in the US appear to be that you can get paid money to perform exhibitions from companies who apparently overlook the fact that you were stealing other people's motorcycles to practice your skills on.

I live in the Atlanta Area and we have wheelie boys here. I go to the auction and have seen a few new looking 2016's with bald tires and seized engines, assuming they are theft recovery bikes. May bid on a 16 yz450f thats seized, not sure what it would be worth though...

Something else had to have been going on, I've got a dumbass friend with a few thousand miles ( and 4 major surgeries ) from spending too much time on one wheel on an R6.
