Awesome! Thank you whoever pulled the trigger on the technical side to get this going, i was watching JG's view more than the real race.

PRO TIP:

If you want the POV view from the helmet cam and the commentary from the main cam, just open up another window with the stream playing!

i'm guessing someone gets into some trouble for letting that GoPro go after the actual moto. It would be cool if they left it running intentionally with some good shots of stuff we never see...but clearly it was a mistake

Was that a go pro? The one Bell was wearing didn't look like a go pro.

I don't think it was a Go Pro.

As always you are correct sir, after I posted I looked at a freeze frame, and they looked like some sort cylinder shaped camera.

They must be for TV use only and not a consumer product.

Still very cool to see for the first time, especially on the web live feed, it was running the whole moto. Made me realize there is no way I'd want to ride that track in that condition.

Sony is making a big push with their new action sports cam and have seen much more marketing from that front lately. I understand they also have models that will send data via WiFi.

Contour has new owner ship and I am sure trying to get more exposure. We used Contours on our Kevlars in the army, they are low profile, waterproof with out a case and black, so it would blend in. Made some good vids, though the ones that came after me could send live video to a system. I liked them enough I bought one.

I have not see the races yet or pics of the cameras, so I wonder if it was either of these.

Unless it was a form factor that we haven't seen yet.

Gopro is the Kleenex of action sports cams, but you could tell straight away that wasn't one, not enough degrees of view, felt like I wanted to zoom out.

Awesome idea though, glad they're still working on improving the broadcast with stuff like this.

I really liked the sound. The go pro has that case around it and muffles the sound. This one had a more crisp sound to me.

The GP's are sponsored by gopro and since this they haven't had any live onboard action. the only time if i remember correctly they had it this year it definitely wasn't a gopro. I think they are experimenting with blue tooth or something but must be having tech difficulties with it

I thought it was great, but it needs to be pointed down the track more, looking at the front fender isn't what the rider sees or what is ideal for the broadcast. But i know the feeling, I pay around with my gopro mounts and its hard to get it perfect.

Just a heads up, The technology behind this is not that insane. Its basically just a radio transmitter and a receiver in the truck.
Bluetooth or wifi will not work in these conditions/distances. The most common frequencies used for video transmission are: 900 MHz, 1.2 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz.
You can set it up on whatever camera with video out and the most common uses for this technology is in RC planes/drones as a live FPV setup. I got something similar with the video out on my drone and it is lossless quality for around 700 meters (ca 0.43 miles)

Its insane, cheap and supercool.. Just make sure not to use it without a license since the radio signals have a tendency to fudge other radio transmissions.

Awesome that they have started using it during the broadcasts..

Yep, it is using RF, ( I have similar technology on my laser skirmish guns in by business), looks like they are even using the same antennas my guns use.
