So today as I am sitting in the Orthopedic waiting room I'm checking out the new 2016 KTM Models. And I scroll across this...

I am confused, is anyone else? Someone, anyone, from the beloved two stroke Taliban enlighten me on this rather strange decision by KTM.

pretty sure they will have an amazing 2017 model. KTM always sets the bar high, apparent;y testing wasnt completed. Don't worry, maybe they will have a 16 FE 300 SX

They must have made a mistake putting last year's bike on there.

According to MXA it was because of budget constraints.

Curious if it will take on the same chassis as the 125/150 2017? Looks very compact IMO

I thought that was an oxymoron?? Wink naw I'm honestly not surprised.. Even if it was within budget, seems like a smarter move to leave something for 2017 that keeps folks talking. Unveil too much new technology at once and I'm sure some of it gets lost in the hoopla..

All we know is that everyone will wait for the 2017 and no one will buy the 2016.

You'd think that if it were not too difficult they would have done that during production to boost sales.

fuel tank, seat, subframe, plus plastics. It cost me damn near $800 to do that on my TTR125.

I would like to see how that black frame affects orange powDercoat sales and ktm coolant t-junction pipe sales worldwide lol.

At least you ktm fan boys can install the FE bold new front numberplate?

Competition drives development. I think they're safe on the 2-stroke front (actually, on all fronts for that matter).

I hear the sounds of budget constraints and the noise of phasing out

Don't think so, there were a lot of pictures of a 250(at least) looking bike with updated plastics and frame etc... I'd say they're making a serious stab at a EFI 300 for the Euro Mx class....

Yes that would be nice but I feel the 250 will only receive minor updates if any there's no need for major changes in a class that is becoming the unloved step child.

I'm shocked as well. I figured the 250 would be the spear head for the KTMs 2 stroke line up. Oh well, I was seriously thinking of getting the new chassis this year, but i'll keep my 13.

You hear direct injection talk, but I'm curious what it will really bring to the track.

On the other hand the 150 got updates and there is no class for that at all!

The 2016 250SX is a let down buy KTM standards, but still they continue to develop while others stand still.

The good news is, my '13 is relevent for another year! Actaully as badly as I wanted to see a new big bore 2 stroke I was going to wait for the new air forks either way so this has no effect on me.

That's the reason why it is sharing more than 90% of the parts from the 125 because there are many classes.
Most likely the 150 will not be sold for "serious" racing

I can run the 150SX in the Vet class and that's good enough for me Tongue

Seems like most people in this thread haven't seen the pics. There is an all new SX 250. Why on earth KTM didn't release it baffles me. MXA says budget constraints, I call bullshit. My guess would be a major problem late in the development cycle. KTM have never left out just ONE of the big bikes when they brought out a new platform.

I call BS on the budget restraints too, and I too have mentioned a problem in development cycle.

Reason being, with a motorcycle, a HUGE amount of the cost is up front in weld tooling for the frame, injection molding tooling for plastics (Shared with other bikes), and tooling for casting/forging engine parts. As clearly shown in the picture above, all that is done and paid for.

Only reason it leaves is a problem with the engine or frame, one of which would exclude the other from production.

I'm curious to see what it will be next year, but am I the only one who doesn't want fuel injection? Way more money if something goes wrong, complicated ( carbs are very easy to work on ). Idk just don't see a need on a 2 stroke, never had any issues with bogging and with diggers jetting it runs fine. I also don't like how the new body style looks, can't get over the back section/side panels. Hate how the muffler is almost completely visible. Also don't want to deal with air forks, I'll stick to springs and carbs.

After this year my bike will have 3 hard seasons on it. So I should do a crank and a clutch, thinking of just selling it to get a 15 or 16. I can transfer all my parts over to.
