Had a pretty fast guy approach me ask me to use my 450 in a big race in ohio soon. Big cash purse. Said he would pay for bike fuel, wear parts, etc. Anybody have any good or bad stories letting someone use their bike? I saw a friendship end over it once. Dude wadded it cause bout $900 damage, took the owner 6 months to get the $900. I am 50/50 on the idea,as doing a nice favor, but my other buddy thinks I am crazy, considering I am anal and off about my bikes.

Billy is he asking to borrow the Honda? Or the Suzuki?

My bike stayed at his house for several weeks while he said he was fixing it. Finally I got pissed off and just went and picked it up. The only thing he replaced on it was the exhaust end cap. And the rivets ended up falling out of it first ride.
I told him the same thing Jeffro...no way in hell the ET3 replica!
I also borrowed a fully race ready pro machine from him for a season. I started the season by paying for a brand new transmission, some internal bearings, 3 clutches, crank, piston, cylinder, and head at the beginning of the season as all of that (minus the head itself) is replaced after the season. I also bought everything else that will wear out but I could keep at the end of the season, like rims/tires. Blew it up at the end of the season (typically we replace everything after 10 hours, this one had 10.2 and was the first one we blew up, further reinforcing the fact that stock rods last about 10 hours), and we squared up but were essentially even.
(yes I know it's an atv..I won 35 of 36 races that year though, beating my brother even)
My brother has his pro license for AMA flattrack. I traveled the country with him for 3 summers and we would always borrow parts (we brought enough to have 2+ spares of just about everything) but would never let someone borrow our spare machine.
Anyone that helps out while working/building our bikes/atv's can usually borrow one if the situation dictates (they blew theirs up during a moto or were having problems during practice). Otherwise no. The situation almost always being that if you break it you buy it and make sure to chip in some for use depending on how much it was used...but we are a little more flexible. If it were to blow up through no fault of your own, we wouldn't make you rebuild it because it would have blown up for sure if we were riding it.
My brother also borrowed my 450 quite a bit a few years ago. He crashed on two separate occasions and broke the subframe among other things. He paid and fixed everything. I know these aren't great examples but it can work out if you know the guy well enough and I would borrow it to someone I know would be able to pay and is offering to pay for parts/use.
A couple of times I came back to racing just for a weekend (I go to school so don't race every season) and borrowed my brothers ATV, I simply gave him my winnings for the day (2 $500 races, 1 $376, 1 $340, and various other ~$100ish).
