Anybody know what happened here? Looks like a new 2016 450?

Not typical for any modern bike but it happens to every brand occasionally. Ask Roger D about it. He has the scars for a reminder.

It seems like every time I see a picture of a bike broken in half like that it ends up always being a KTM, except for the one CR500 a few months back. Hope the rider is ok.

The ones I've seen before the frame actually broke. This one the triple clamps broke. Don't know why though....

It's Ceriel Klein Kromhof's bike after crashing at the "Zwarte Cross" race in the Netherlands. It "seems" that the bike has snapped after landing from a jump.

Definitely seen a lot of Pumpkins break, including one at Appin that happened from a head-on into a downed bike–looked like the clamps went forward in the head stock...

BUT. It happens to ALL brands.

I can understand the AF conversions failing. I couldn't imagine a production bike failing:

Plenty of factors (riders going faster and faster, so taking bigger crashes) but one is also the quality of materials. Recycled materials while trying to save weight is not great and it will continue in that direction. For instance I heard from a few mechanics that carters had a better quality back in the 80's / 90's than nowadays (although I broke a brand new triple clamps in 97... which is one of the 3 most scary mechanicals I had).

Wasn't Roger D's a triple clamp failure as well? Went a little to thin and light on the works clamps I believe.

Yes - Please stop buying KTM's and driving the prices up. They are the only bikes that break. These pictures are all Photoshopped.

Why anyone would think shaving weight on a triple clamp is a good idea (for any reason) over losing a pound or two in their ass or belly is beyond me. Hell Barcia lost as much weight as shaving a triple clamp by just getting a haircut. If anything, I'd add weight/strength to that part of the bike.

Dungey Doright is probably tempted to post a photo of a broken Suzuki right now. Of course, he would have to take a break from all the training Aldon has him doing. That and having to count all the bonus money he's won this year doesn't leave much time for social media.

On the bright side: It looks like it was the clamps that failed rather than the frame.

Does anyone think KR94 is bashing a tad?
No. It's 99% rider 1% bike. He will win the overall this weekend. If not he can't blame the bike. He said he could win on a stock Suzuki.

I know that has happened to every brand, but that is a 2016 KTM from a fairly high profile Dutch team that even has KTM support I believe. Could be a freak accident, but I'll bet you right now KTM is going to be all over why those clamps failed.

Looks like stock clamps. Doesn't matter though, with the right fatigue and impact. Cairolis clamps broke in des nations a couple years ago and those where Neken clamps.
