They claim 15-20 minutes.

Actually if it works well the $59.00 price isn't that bad. It is basically a wood burning tool with a molder type knife on the end instead of a stamp or profile. Most high quality wood burning tools with a profile cost around $80.00 - $120.00. High grade steel for knife grinding is not that cheap either.

been doing it for at least 15 years now and its well worth the 20 minutes. its like a new tire every two weeks then toss it for a new tire once a month! great deal IMO

I have used mine a bunch and it gives you about THREE lives from a rear tire!!!! It takes about 20 minutes for a rear tire. I do all acceleration sides of the knobs and every other braking sides of the knobs and works GREAT. Maxis IT's and SI's have thicker knobs so you can get almost 4 lives from a rear. Key is to just shave 1/8 of an inch off just to get the edge sharp.

Also if you know your riding or racing a sand track you can actually "CUP" the acceleration side of the knobs!!!!!!

yep if you take to much off it not only makes one less sharpening possible but it also will weaken the knobs and they start to crack or break off sooner. It depends on the construction and the compound of the tire as to how many times you can cut it.

Spend the extra $50 and get a tire groover instead of cutting the face of the knobs. Grooving adds 2 new sharp edges to the top of the knobs and does not remove material from the face so the knob does not flex. MXA did an article on this a few issues back.

They say grooving does NOT extend the life of a tire.

Customizing a new tire with grooves can improve performance but the tire will also wear FASTER. That is what they refer to.

Grooving the tops of a used tire will give you sharp edges for a ride or two max.

I watched a friend of mine touch up his tire with a utility knife at a race last summer. He swears by it. He finished his second moto in the same place as the first though. Grinning
