My right knee is asking for a blow out. Been giving me some major pain as of late, likely from all the time I spend crawling around on grating and steel at work.

My medical covers braces, I was just curious as to what y'all would suggest I get.

My medical covered DonJoy's, been using them for years and have been happy. Never tried anything else.

Cti's also can be converted to be used for other things than moto (wake boarding, hockey, etc they however don't fit under my hockey pads very well) by taking the patella cup and gear saver pads off.

Wife and I both have sets of custom CTI braces. Highly recommend them.

It looks like the general consensus, if this was a democratic society, is the CTI. I will call my insurance tomorrow and see about getting the ball rolling on that.

Do you guys usually wear both left and right at the same time?

Yes, both knees are always in CTi's. Won't even ride a pit bike without them.

Seems like the best idea anyways, if you're using them for injury prevention as I will be. Thank you.

I've been meaning to post this same question. Just had ACL reconstruction and a torn MCL. I will probably be getting CTIs. We've actually had an ossur rep do some work with our series. I've looked at POD and the Möbius. I'll be checking back on this thread...

The big difference with custom vs. off the shelf is each brace is made to fit your leg perfectly compensating for any irregularity of the joint. With off the shelf they cover a wide range of leg and knee sizes and do not compensate properly if you are "Knock Kneed" or if you need one of the compartments of the joint to be unloaded. Best bet is to talk to your ortho or sports medicine doctor and make sure your knees do not need any additional adjustments to properly support you knees.

If you go to the Ossur website the have a video of how they go about making a custom brace. You can see why custom is the better option even if they cost more the proper fit and support are worth it.

I have custom don joys that I dig, but I've worn through tons of pants and even an oversize gas tank with them. Instead of refreshing them this year I tried a set of mobius and have been blown away at the quality and fit of these things. Mobius is the real deal. Fit like a glove and don't slide/move or come loose in my 2-3 hour races. Just another option.

Another +1 for the CTI's

I was able to get my insurance to pay for a set of them. No questions asked.

I got the new patella cup and have been super happy with mine.

What kind of insurance do you guys have to get them paid for?

I have what I thought was decent insurance but they looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if CTI are covered.

Would love a pair of CTis. But I use the Mobius and I love the full knee protection cup. Curious how the cti brace protects the knee cap??
They offer an accessory patella cup, they also have bits for the hinge that reduce wear and tear on your leathers and graphics.

I asked my doctor what options I had before I started anything, just for that reason.

My doctor told me that if I had any knee instability he would refer me to a specialist. I told him I had knee instability in both knees.

The specialist asked if I had knee instability, I said I did. He sent that diagnosis over to my insurance company and they approved it that week.

I was in the next week getting my castings done and had the braces the week after that.

I had HealthNet insurance at the time.
