Thats stupid ...

Reminds me of this one story during the GP of Lierp (2012 ? i think) where Marc Dereuver accidently drank* from a bottle with fuel instead of water prior to a moto start. I believe the story was that the mechanic accidently handed him the wrong bottle. All i remember is that he DNF'ed the moto after a few laps..

Methanol is actually common in some race fuels like 38special said because pure methanol has a high octane rating allowing for higher compression ratios. Ethanol has a higher heating value but pure ethanol is not made because people would drink it instead of burning it. I assume these kids thought they got their hands on ethyl alcohol (100% drinking alcohol) and not methyl alcohol (the stuff that makes you go blind).

A mixture of methanol and nitromethane makes a great race fuel, not sure about the taste though.

I accidentally swallowed a whole mouth full of antifreeze , and knew I fucked up as soon as I swallowed it. I got super sick about 15 seconds later , went down onto all fours and started throwing up. Went the hospital where they pumped my stomach three times to get it all out. I didn't feel normal for a good week.

Why I drank it? I had some lemon-lime Gatorade in my riding bag , and when I pulled off the track after a moto , I was dying of thirst , and totally forgot I had a bottle of extra antifreeze/water wetter in there to top of the rads on hot days. I grabbed the wrong one.....that was a very bad day.

Now Reefer try real hard to grow a brain. When a parent has to lay a child to rest it's tragic. I don't ever find it amusing. Sure it was dumb, stupid etc. but tragic as well.
