Two things:

1) Henry Gref is MX

2) Sad to see that Maico is such a sad state of disrepair. I can appreciate the duct tape seat no problem but having a swingarm with moved up shock mounts but no frame modification is so wrong.........Mr. Maisch would NOT be happy if he saw that.

Kenworthy's was a former stop om the AMA National trail - TROY, OHIO was the locale, near Dayton.

The facility wasn't that well liked by riders and teams and was rumored to be closing the entire twenty years

I attended the place....After a few floods, the place went back to flood plain and farmland... I think it was

Colorado that bought out the "date" on the calendar...

All the locals loved the place, legendary parties, fun track, well prepped and attended, yet very "Supercrossey"

with virtually no elevation... Last round was 04 or 05 I think
Good stuff. I got to hit the 96(?) national when I was in Dayton on business. Great weekend. Dirt's a little black clay-ish, but the peeps know how to partay and the layout was not bad. As I recall Fro-daddy won it over Supermac and Alby, with Lamson and Windham dueling in the 125s. Yes. 125s. The best part was parking in the middle of a corn field recently laid bare just for that purpose..

The best no fear gear. Man most stuff in this little era looked awesome, it's screamed racing, not random hipster like today's stuff.

If a track loses it's AMA National status, that's fair enough but why doesn't the track still hold Amateur races.

If you could make a half $ mil on one BIG ASS weekend, or hold a few local races making ten $ grand that you had to

split up five ways - what would you do ?

Once they lost their National, the amateur races drew much smaller crowds - the lustre of a " NATIONAL" track

brings in the amateurs....and, truth be told, the Kenworthy's folks ran a tight ship and they pissed off quite

a few folks over the duration of their existence. The flooding from the trackside river compounded the problems...

We have decent tracks over here that run British Championship (obviously not at the same level as a GP or an AMA National), top amateur and local meetings but they're still running. I may have read you reply wrong, and please correct me if I did, are you saying it closed because it lost National status?

Foxhill track over here lost its GP status after 3 big events were a wash out, 98 MXon's and a couple of GP's after that. Track is barely used now. Shame because it was/is a wonderful track.

It's sad that they only made $10K per amateur event. They got more riders than anyone. Makes you wonder how other tracks stay in business...not that a lot have I guess.

I think those are just rough numbers. To be honest I would imagine not many tracks at all are clearing 10K at amateur races these days. Unless they are big races like qualifers etc. But local district races, I dont see it happening.

Great post Rup!!! Man did this bring back a lot of GREAT memories!!! My first area qualifier on an 80. The trips back for National weekends after my family moved to GA to race amateur day and visit family of courseWink The first national I qualified for in the 250 class(450 now).

The pics of the grass race though are the ones that bring back the toughest memories though. The last grass race I attended was with the Collins family, the year before JD died. We had such a blast that weekend, I'll never forget it. My dad still has a bunch of old pics I'll have to get from him. He also has a TON from back in the MId-Ohio days from the Trans-Am races!

Rup, if you ever get to come to Budds for a national, hit me up I'd have a blast bench racing and sharing pics and stories with you! We have a place for you to stay!

Here's another old thread for the dearly departed Kenworthy's. Some cool stuff, including some pics of the track in it's current state, or should I say the property. I guess I'll just copy them.

Also, here's an aerial view from Bing of the track. Pretty cool. You can still see the starting gate and parts of the track. If you zoom in real close, you can see some of the jumps in the back section.

Here's the pictures. I'm not familiar with the track all that much. I remember watching it as a kid, but I copied in the photo titles for those of you who have some context for the old jump names and such.

I must say, it's a sad sight. I'm from NY and when Broome lost the national, I was worried for the place. At least they've been running some amateur stuff the past few years. My dad has been racing the NY State Championships there for the past 2 yrs. But man, the place has lost some of its luster. Not like Kenworthy's though. These are just sad.

hey Rup, lets see a couple pics of the old Bias Gap- that was my grandmother's absolute favorite; she sat under the big tree that was there on the infield with a cooler of 7 up and little Kings at just about every dang Kenworthy race for many years ...

What's up with the fuel valve on this #259 bike? Look's to be custom. Maybe requires a screw driver to turn off?

I thought that was fairly common on the pro bikes, so it would never be off on the starting line, and never be accidentally bumped off while out on the track.
