I'm South African based and I'm looking for a good condition KX 500 - 89 to 04 as I believe parts are easily available.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bring one in from the states or the UK. There are plenty of containers that are shipped from the uk on a weekly basis. It wont be cheap at all!!

Surely there has to be a few KX500's left in SA?

Sean Collier might have thinned out the availability of the KX500s. I even took a look at craigslist a few weeks back after seeing some of the videos lately.

Sean collier makes riding that big bore look a whole lot easier than it is for us mortals. I bet many or most guys who jump on the KX500 bandwagon won't stay for long lol! I rode/raced KX500s from 88 to 97, those things are great fun but they will work you hard..

That's what I was thinking.. If they're getting scarce don't worry, most of them will be up for sale again soon. The pros made them look a lot easier to ride than they were.

They're a great bike but not fun on a MX track unless you're a unique kind of rider.

Will do. Iv seen a few in the $3000 range that interests me ( thanks to the help from you guys).

The only hurdle I face is that buying something in the USA from strangers on Craigslist worries me.

I have been in touch with a few mates that side who will do the ground work...viewing, purchasing and the shipping the thing this side.

Thanks again all and ill let you guys know how it goes.

I owned a 1982 RM 500 back in the day but that bike does not compare to the later generation of 500's. Good luck and enjoy if you can tame the beast!!

Holy shit, that's sick. When I raced supermoto, we were all on 450s, then a few Ape 550s and there was one cr500 with custom FI. Thing was a MONSTER.

We have an 87 KX500 for sale.
We have it on Craigslist and put it up on Ebay from time to time, also have it out locally at our house.

Thinnest KX line ever. I rode an 87 250 and it was like riding a razor blade. They doubled in width the following year.

Some just friendly advise: search using different terms. Sometimes Kawasaki 500 will get you a KX500. When I search I use these:

Kawasaki 500
KX500
KX 500
500 dirt bike
green dirt bike

Sounds dumb but kawasaki 25o is how I found my KX250
