Does anyone know if the frame is the same on the old vs new KX 85 thus allowing me to update my son's bike to the new look?

Not sure about that, but when I red the improvements, didn't said anything about the frame. Updates where minor in the engine, but a lot in the plates/aestetics.

Post over at Thumpertalk. I know some folks asked about the conversion when the new bikes were introduced but honestly, I lost interest after buying my son a 125. But if it can't be done, the restyled UFO front and rear fenders are a huge improvement ove the older bikes OEM plastic. My son's 2010 KX85 had them.

the frame is basically the same design, but i don't know if all the mounts are the same,

it would require an airbox, fuel tank to do the whole lot, it might be possible, but it would not be cheap,

UFO do a restyle kit for the older KX85's, but it does not look like the new ones,

I'm doing one right now, 2004 with 2015 plastics. 2 new tabs/mounts for the side panels and 2 new tabs/mounts for the rad shrouds. Everything bolts up perfect, you need to mod the rear frame where the fender mounts and your good to go. Frame is out being powder coated now. You can put all the 15 stuff on, tank, seat & plastics and see what you need to do, not much !! I had a friend that bought his son a 2015 so I used his stuff to see how it fit first, then i bought the 2015 plastics, seat, tank.

buy your kid a 15 and be done with it. I know of dads with supertrick 2013 KX superminis that they cant sell because kids take one look and say it looks "old". looks have become just as important as engine and suspension these days

Buying a new bike is out of the question financially for me, I already spend a small fortune each year with my son and I racing bikes and my daughter racing quads. Not to mention that his bike has a fresh motor, new tires, chain & sprockets, brakes, Spare Top End Etc. And the cost to change it over can be broken up over time by getting a piece here and there instead of all in one lump sum of a new bike.

Scottie better not be bad-mouthing the Vital faithful! Huh It's foolish to bag on one's 'constituency'. Pretty sure the advertisers here at the saloon recognize that the flock actually buys their shit and keeps them in business....

I think some of the mounts are different around the shrouds and side panels...
