Has anyone seen the video on mxptv face book page of josh hill riding an electric bike? Thing looks crazy fast, they seem to have come a long way.

I'm not sure if Hill is part of it but, I saw on Instagram that Dirt Rider is testing them. Hopefully the review is coming soon.

As someone who has a deposit on the Tesla 3 and debating the Model X it's easy to say I'm a fan of the electric future. That said, the sound the bike makes in the whoops is a little sad compared to our current bikes.

If you get the chance watch on YouTube some of the Formula E racing. The sounds coming from the chassis of the vehicles combined with the tire noise is really interesting once the engine noise is removed.

I looked up that formula E. The racing was ok, but I think that E stands for Ehh. Nothing beats this, I'll never forget you internal combustion engine

Josh looks really good on that bike, but the sounds it makes are painful. Definately can see the potential.

Anyone have a link to the video? Or could possibly post it? I don't do any facebook or any social media.

I know i'm in the minority here, but I'm excited about the electric bike technology. I love the sound of a perfectly tuned combustion engine just as much as the next guy, but I would trade all that in a heartbeat if it meant more riding areas. Obviously, that's yet to be seen, but I hope that's the case.

There are probably going to be a bunch of sounds we've never heard before cause of the quiet engine...like the jolting sound everything makes when you land from jumps...

which also makes me wonder if the gate makes any noise just before it drops....ude definitely hear it..

how would a start even sound like? total silence (maybe some casual banter being thrown around...birds chirping)...GATE DROP...wait what?!?

Electric bike? But how would you know when the bike is on or when you're in the powerband?!?!?

I don't want them to replace the ICE, but I would love to have one. No cleaning filters, way less oil changes. Basically check the bolts, clean and lube the chain, and make sure your battery is charged. Electric bikes will make it so much easier for those limited on time.

I saw one of those in the back of a San Bernardino Sherriff's truck a couple days ago. Looks like they are using them in law enforcement.

These bikes have the potential to dramatically improve the sport IMO.

The single biggest issue for the sport is a lack of places to ride, and the biggest obstacle is noise. Take noise out of the equation and a world of opportunity should open up. Backyard tracks, MTB like parks (check out videos of Duthie Hill near Seattle and picture that for electric motorcycles), etc. North of Seattle, a proposed mx track just lost the last of a series of lawsuits from the greenies, and it was potential noise that they really honed in on. These bikes will be game changers.

The Alta is backed by Martin Eberhard, one of the founding members of Tesla. It has the brain power and potential to be something. Like all vehicles in this sector it will take some development to get the weight/ride time balance closer to the ICE counterparts but if the market for it is there, it will happen.

I'm a fan. A friend is doing some flat track testing for them as well and has largely positive comments.

I'm with you! E is the future. Our neighbor, Boris Said, has a KTM ebike that he rides all over our hills, and it's sick.

I think the single biggest issue is the lack of time on the battery. Still don't go long enough for a good ride.

We have one in our little town, they use it to patrol the parks, it is pretty bad ass.

It's a shame no one can make a 4 stroke sound like that... or "tuned" sound of some rice rockets also...

Give them time to extend the range and shorten the charge time. When the engineers nail those concerns, I'd buy one. The neighbors wouldn't even know I'm riding.
