They've been using this in Rallycross for a few years now. It gives faster cars a chance to get past on a tight track. Makes sense with cars but totally redundant with bikes - unless the organizers are thinking that their track is strictly 'one line' and boring.Aquafresh wrote: I like it.

What I think will be interesting is how easily the riders merge at the end of the split lane start straight. Not convinced its the brightest idea RC's ever had, but it's certainly different.

I know it's only one thing you HAVE to do once but personally I think I'd find it an unnecessary distraction nevertheless. All the time they're racing round it's going to be in the back of their minds that at some point they have to do that lane. If I were out there I'd be tempted to just get it out the way as fast as possible on the first lap, and thus allow myself to race free from there on out. Though of course if it does work well, I stand corrected.

Something like this needs to be added to sx season. Break up the pace somehow. Just so tired of sx taking out these riders before the real mx racing season starts.

555, I don't think the sport is on its way out based on SX attendance. You are right about live coverage being spotty, but I'm not sure the Joker Lane will help that. Altering the regulations of the sport doesn't really change much, IMO. Let's add something to the program if we want to attract more outside sponsors and better coverage, not mess with the formula.

one thing i REALLY like about the MEC is the three 10 lap main events. Thank you Australian SX series for that stroke of genius.
the single 20 lap main has jumped the shark-with-laser-beams-attached-to-their-friggin-head tank. get's boring as fuck after the 8th lap. very rarely does it go all 20. anybody who says otherwise probably listens to Coldplay and plays with barbies.
