They're "going it alone". That is, no big energy drink or Indian casino endorsements. I guess Muscle Milk didn't renew with them. Suzuki is being run out of a muffler shop in Chino. Kawi has Monster, and Yamaha handed the wheel over to JGR a half decade ago.

Bikes look clean. I don't agree with Honda's business practices and approach to the series they compete in, but I'll hand it to them for investing in the sport like this. They could have easily just handed the 450 team to Geico and washed their hands of it in the U.S. like the other three Japanese manufacturers did.

Honda easily has the highest net worth and resources to do this. They are the most stable platform and have been for many years.

This racing program is pocket change for a corporation and i'm sure almost all of the costs get deducted as a marketing expenses in YE statements.

It's not surprising. I would like to know more reasons why you think they aren't smart for doing it?

Business aside, I think its cool as hell that they have two of the nicest, most genuine guys in the business riding for them, what a smart decision if even from a PR standpoint.

I never said they were not smart for doing it. I actually said the opposite, and i will tell you why.

the exact same thing happened to them in the 500GPs in 1994 when Rothman's pulled the plug. They went out on the NSR500 that was done up exactly like the OEM livery on the NSR250s of the time and won the championship with Doohan. As a result, they sold a ridiculous number of NSR250s around the globe and it was directly attributed to their marketing approach that year, at least, according to Honda.

They're doing it again.

Totally agree! i watched the press intro videos on the vital home page (awesome job by the way Michael) and on Racer X and they were great. Honda has two of my favorite riders signed up for the next few years which is awesome!

but whats with the 2 mufflers thing?

has anyone tried to re-introduce a failed marketing exercise on this scale in mx?

and who cares about hpds?

(no ones ever said "im getting the honda because it has the hpds and 2 mass centralizing mufflers")

You've got to give it to them!

Anyone else think that the bikes have a real "Euro" look to them?

Totally agree. Canard & Seely are two great riders that give Honda a great name and are great for PR. They are both immensely likable, have total commitment to the job & to the team. The bikes look 100% better w/o the Muscle Milk logos, and I've always liked the "Ride Red" corporate brand. And... I am SO glad they are not hooking up with any poisonous energy drink or so-called protein product that's filled with garbage just to make the numbers work.

Muscle Milk was purchased by the Hormel Corp. and they have a company-wde policy of not sponsoring motorsports. I have no idea why, but it definitely was not good news for Honda. They will be fine, but losing a sponsor due to some board room policy is unfortunate...

I can assure you that where the Suzuki Factory Racing program is "run" out of is not a "muffler shop." Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing in Chino is a first class/championship winning race facility where the Suzuki SX/MX race programs have been operated out of for over 15 years. Not only the 2 SX/MX teams operate out of this facility, but the US Suzuki Superbike teams have operated out of for decades.

The "Muffler Shop" you refer to employs almost 100 hard working employees that create the exhaust systems that are on Yoshimura Suzuki, RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John's Suzuki, Factory Honda, Geico Honda, and the Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing Superbike program.

Manufacturing in the USA is hard enough these days, never mind mentioning the state of California and all the cost associated with doing it.

Please have a little more respect for the "muffler shop" In Chino.

I invite you to stop by one day and I personally will show you around the facility. I am sure you will have a new found respect for us.

Ok, I am stepping down now....Oh Kudo's to Honda. I agree with you on them going it alone.

Some corporations avoid sponsoring Football aka soccer because of fighting (fans) on the Football terraces,
Cycling and doping, F1 and deathly crashes etc

I've said this before. Honda stands by their riders. I think it's pretty cool of them to stick with guys like Wil Hahn, Canard, Windham, and many more through tough times. The riders all seem to really want to do as much as they can for Honda in return. You couldn't ask for a better ambassador of your brand more than Canard and Windham. Tomac is also a pretty awesome personality in that group.

Some of you guys are reading a bit too much into the "muffler shop" comment. I think what he was saying is that the "muffler shop" is a big name sponsor similar to Monster and JGR. Honda doesn't have a big name sponsor. Maybe worded a bit poorly but I don't think he meant it as a slight to Yosh. . . Or maybe he did. I dunno. I didn't find it offensive in my first read.

Fortunately, that muffler shop employs some skilled people who love what they do. To take a flat sheet of metal, cut it up, form it and weld it to duplicate a works part from decades past.....let's just say that I hold the muffler shop in high regards.

I watched that youtube video or some documentary on TV of them making mufflers. The process is very impressive. I'll try to look it up when I get home.
