Is this a good deal?(no, it wasnt)

Went to buy a new bike today, and my dealer has a brand new 2012 wr450 I can get for 7000 out the door. Is that a good deal? AIl I need is a good trail bike, and my other option is a ktm 300 for almost 9 grand, or a yz250 x for 7400 cash. A 4 stroke sounds interesting to me at that price, but I'm unfamiliar with the old style wr450. I do know that it has all the trail goodies on it though.

Try to find a leftover 450X for cheaper. There's plenty that have been sitting at my local dealership that I'm sure they'd let go for super cheap.

Not a good deal at all...he is losing money each and every month..,the longer he has the less it's worth to everyone...
5000 tops or walk...

They won't budge on newer stuff. I'd ridden a wr450 like this before and loved it, but I think 6 grand is more than fair.

Tell him he's about to lose $7,000.00 more!Laughing

If it doesn't put you in a bind, buy the bike and go have fun. But if you go look at what a used 2012 model sells for that's exactly what it will be worth as soon as you ride it.

That's what I'm thinking. May go back with 5 cash and see. Not today tho, I'm already home and it's 45 miles away lol.

Yeah, I may be able to get it a lot cheaper. I love that particular bike though except it's heavy as hell.

Supposedly another dealer has a new 2012 crf450 at less than 6 grand so I'll look at that first, if that's a good bike.

Terrible deal for a 2012. A quick search on CycleTrader will help you out.

Print off some similar bikes selling at less than $7,000 and take that data in with you. You have to give your offer some basis.

Would you be interested in a new 2012 RMZ250? How hard would it be to make it "trail ready"? JAFO92 right here on Vital has one ready to go. Priced right...just saying.

Is it important for you to have EFI?

That's a terrible deal. I'd go get a used one for like 2500. Or go get a brand new current kawi 450 for less.

No way I'd buy a used 4t. I know a lot of people take care of their stuff, but in my area I don't tryst them lol.

Now that I've had a few replies, I see that anything over 4 grand is too much lol. My old lady said to just "buy the damned orange bike you wanted for 8,000" lol.

I'm planning a trip to Tennessee to see if zi can find a better deal, then to my bro in law in Indiana to check prices. It's just too damned hard to get local dealers to make a deal. I offered 7,000 cash for a new xcw300 and they said no way. Offered it on a yz250x and still no deal, with cash money. Won't come down a cent from sticker.

The MSRP on that bike was $8,090. That dealer says he will lose $1500 at $7,000? I'd go somewhere else, this guy seems sketchy. Don't be afraid to drive a little or call every dealer within driving distance to get quotes. If you can get them bidding against each other you can get a smoking deal. I'd say $5,000 is still too high for the '12. The CycleTrader search engine will help you find a good deal. Remember it's a buyers market right now, patience will be rewarded.

Very good advice. When I go into a shop, I get too excited lol. I'm like a 12 year old again and easy to screw over lol.

I'm too heavy for a 250. 210 pounds lol.

They're pretty good guys as far as dealers go, but they don't ever want to come down any on prices.

You can't really hurt a 450 unless you are a complete dumb ass.

I know a very fast pro rider who did a 30 minute moto in 98 degree weather with NO OIL in his bike. It completely smoked the clutch and basket before realized what was going on. Anyways, tore the engine down, everything looked okay, Im sure it didn't increase the longevity of the engine by any means. But he ended up putting another 30+ hours on it without issue.

No offense, but it sounds like this dealer has rammed it in you before, so he knows if he holds out long enough he will get to ram it in again.

No doubt! But in all seriousness, if it were me, I'd get a leftover 16 KX450F. They can be had for around 6500 maybe less OTD. Or purchase a used bike from a reputable source. Like I said, it's hard for the average person to hurt a 450. Other than neglect. Which should be easy to see.
