I use one. Had to modify it thouigh as I have a leg that's 1/2" short and it would pull on back unevenly. I use it at about 45 degrees for about 15 minutes after a workout. I think it's a positive for my back. Turbo

Honestly I have NEVER heard of anyone having one and didnt absolutely love it.

When you get one you just need to check into how it hooks to your feet/ankles.Some are more comfortable than others.

Those things are awesome...... But I will say 90% of people with back pain or problems stem from a weak core. Get on that table as much as possible but match the time spent on it with doing ab workouts as well. Thats what I would do if I were you sir!

are inversion tables those things where you hang from your ankles??? if so i've used one before, it's kind of a weird feeling, as SH_105 most back pain is caused by weak core muscles or muscle imbalances
12/12/2010 6:06pm
they work and like they are saying you have to focus on stretching and stabilizing the muscle imbalance in your core. depending on how bad you are it will take you a year or better to get stuff back to normal so dont give up.

If you do a lot of reading on them , most people will say the relief you get from using one , is only temporary , no matter how much you use it. I also agree with Sean , in that a strong core is extremely helpful with back pain. Keep everything , including your butt and front part of your upper legs in the same shape as your abs , sides and back....and everything balances. I know when i let myself start getting out of shape , my back is one of the first things to start nagging me.

I have had one for about 6 years. Before i got it i was going to the chiropractor once a week for about 6 months. Since i got the table i haven't been back. I think everyone should have one. It's worth the money.

I use inversion boots, without a table, and hang upside down in the gym from a fixed pullup bar. I have incorporated this in to my gym workout everyday for the last 7 or so years. Not only do I hang upside down for the stretch, but I do various crunches with and without weights, and my back is painfree and my core is very strong. Every day people in the gym ask me about it, wondering where they can get the boots. Ebay is a great place to find them....... And yes, I too used to suffer from back pain from moto............

I do a lot of Yoga and do all the "chick" classes at the Gym. Pilate's, kickbox cardio, body works weights...lots of crunch stuff for the core.. I would love to take a little soreness out of my back.....too many seat bounces on XR75's.....I also so my chairo a couple times a month to keep things aligned.

Be careful how fast you flip upside down and send the blood rushing to your head. I think using one of those contributed to a retina problem I had a while back.

Have had one for years... Just sold it at a garage sale.. I found it tough to relax enough to stretch my back.. But the part that killed it is how to store that damage then when your not using it.. Very bulky.

broke my back new years eve of 03 out in glamis. sand rail landed on me.

fractured T11 & T12. Doctor said i was 2 in a million that dont get paralyzed from the incident. it might have had something to do with the fact that prior to the wreck i was doing about 400 various ab crunches a day. lucky for me the doc didnt recommend surgery.

i bought a inversion table as soon i was released from the hospital.

two days later i ditched the back brace.

within a week i got used to it where i could hang for an entire episode of sportscenter. i did 45 minutes, twice a day, every day, for about 3 months.

at the four week mark i started shooting hoops again.

when i went back to the doc's to get mid-term xrays done at the 6 week mark, he thought i was at the 12 week mark and cleared me to get back on the dirtbike/jetski. i corrected him, he examined the xrays again, was shocked at how fast i healed and then gave me the clearance to at least start playing full contact basketball. i was in the gym later that day playing at UCLA's wooden center.

it turned out that i had a hairline fracture in one of my vertabrae prior to the glamis incident from a bmx injury some 5 years earlier. it was so slight that the body never recognized it and it never healed. but it was annoying pain everytime i walked. after the whole glamis incident, it turned that hairline into a full on fracture and thanks to the hanging upside down, it finally got healed.

i have less back issues after the whole ordeal than prior thanks to the inversion table. the release of pressure from being upside down allows a LOT more blood circulation to occur and really helps to reduce inflamation. flushing out all the toxin buildup from all the inflamed areas is key to healing any injury.

ive since used the table to heal pulled groin muscles literally overnight and various other minor lower body injuries.

i highly recommend an inversion table to anyone. waaay cheaper than surgery and much better results.

get one for sure.
really helped my L5-S1
the fucking Dr.s never mentioned inversion, they get paid to cut.
I'm convinced that I could have avoided my surgery if I'd have found out about hanging a few years ago.

4 months of Chiro visits, compressed disc causing constant pain in left calf. After 8 - 2 minute sessions on a device called Invertrac and I was fixed.

Inversion is good.

I used for a few weeks and stopped.

BTW.. Gradually make you way into going inverted. Try it at a slight angle for a few days. Then a little more each day . I'd say take about a week until your completely upside down. In order for it to work properly you need to fully relax. Try not to be distracted. Try listening to an ipod and keep your arms above your head.

Dang......after reading everyone's replies here ( except for Dave's and Gibby's ) I think I may have to end up getting one of these. Found a few on Craigs list already , but I'll wait until I come across a great deal. I think my lower back could benefit from one of these things.

I got mine at Sams Club. It's built really good. It was $150.. Wal-Mart has a cheaper one for under $100

Hey now! I thought for my first post I would contribute to this subject. For most, the inversion table works...and it works great! As a vet rider, like a lot of people here I've ridden/raced most of my life and this past year I was not able to ride much at all due to progressing back/disc/nerve/leg pain issues. I won't bore you with all the details but suffice it to say I've seen many Drs. ,Chiros. and Specialists. Had a few injections, etc..the whole works. Nothing worked to alleviate the problem...that is until I purchased an inversion table 2 months ago. Used it diligently and also incorporated a stretching routine as well. Guess what...pain is almost gone! It made a believer out of me and will continue to use it as a maintenance tool as well. Also as others have said core is key crucial too! Hope this helps! I'm going riding!....#57

After years of dealing with back pain, I finally figured out the formula to curing it completely. I had surgery on my dominate leg. I had tried everything prior to that which included an inversion table and nothing worked. A few weeks on crutches and not favoring my opposite leg and I have been cured for about a year now. Realizing that was the problem, I make myself consciously aware when I do my daily everything, workouts and especially jogging. As an example: I'll carry groceries in my left hand and carry them to the car or in the house (I'm right handed). In a 30 min. jog, I'll take about 3 min. about half way in and plant harder on my non dominate leg. It makes a huge difference and you can feel instantly that it is awkward and help you realize how much you favor one side from the other. If I'm sitting in a chair for a while, I'll consciously shift my weight to the opposite side. It makes a difference.

Inversion tables are cool and they have many benefits but if you are getting it solely on the merit of curing your back pain you might be disappointed just as I was when I thought I found my cure all. They do give you a good stretch and not going totally inverted and only about 45 degrees really does take pressure off you entire body. I can see where they can be a very good tool to a healthy non sore body and provide a good stretch and benefits to core strength if incorporated into a workout routine. What they won't do or wouldn't do for me was replace the work of a chiropractor. In fact it would screw up a good chiropractor visit.

Fractured back a few years ago and would say my inversion was a key piece to my recovery. It definately relieves the pressure on your discs. Don't know if I would have healed as well with out it. My wife is finding relief on it now as she has injured her back recently as well.

i have one and use it several times a week. makes me feel better. easier to use than my old gravity boots that i've had since 1981. not for everyone i'm sure.

Inversion is great but you don't use it once or twice and then then you're cured. I've been using one since 98 and bought a second one that I keep in the container at the REM track to use while I am moto-ing. I also swim, bicycle, and stretch to compliment the time on the inversion table....BTW it is actually more beneficial to swing back and forth on the table than it is just to hang so you get some traction effect.

When I am REALLY jacked up I go to my chiro and use the miracle device the VaxD You can visit this site, plug in your zip code to see where a table is at in your area.

im gonna assume u went straight for hanging upside down? correct me if im wrong.

like mx295 said (and i forgot to mention in my post), its real important for some to ease there way into it. even at the slightest angle of inversion a lot of pressure is released.

i like to think of it as stretching. you cant just expect to put ur palms to the floor the first day or it will hurt more than it helps.

Can some of you guys give me some names of the people who make these things.....that are considered a good high quality machine? I know about the "Teeter" brand....but what other brands are out there that are constructed well?

I can't believe this many people in this thread are happy with these things. From reading on muscle and fitness sites....people try to pass judgment on them , like they are snake oil. And about 95% of the guys in here really love them. I'm getting one now for sure!
