Interesting 2-stroke on display at local car show

This was on display along with a bunch of Ducatti's. Not bad for a Yamaha...

Is that little red box a boost box?

Clearly, they have the motor tilting in the wrong direction.

That is a carb vent filter, I forget who made them but they looked pretty cool even if they did nothing. Came and went with the carb vent T kits.

not to jack the thread, but has anyone ever tried building a RM500AF with one of the old Quadzilla engines? I saw one a while back with a CR500 engine, but suzuki did make a water cooled 500 back in the day. Never made it to the motorcycle line though.

The quadzilla motor would be interesting on a bike frame. It is counterbalanced so it shouldn't have as much vibes as the other motors. However in stock trim it doesn't make the hp that a cr or kx500 made.

If you aren't premixing, then your just pretending!

I don't think lack of horsepower would be a problem on the 500.

Small world eh?
What a surprise to see your bike on Vital posted by a stranger.
My family and I walk to this show every year. Been in Carmel for 6 years but headed to Norcal in 2 weeks
Just in time to miss the winter blues... Bye, Bye midwest.

Nice bike and looks so much better in person.

Why won't Yamaha make this bike!?!?!? I know they're making pure profit on that 9 year old design but come on!!!

11/1/2012 5:49 AM

Isn't AF a Service Honda trademark?

11/1/2012 6:39 AM

Not sure, I do know they have a trademark on Cr500 AF

I think that's the question that the whole world has been asking about Yamaha, Honda, Kawi, and Suzuk. The answer - "You will take what we give you, dammit!"

How does it perform, its sick.

The ohlins suspension is insane by far the coolest suspension I have ever ridden. The top stroke just soaks up everything, and I can really just point the front wheel into the turn and go, every turn it seems I can take faster and faster. The hook up is outstanding.

I am not as fast as I use to be, so I installed a rekluse clutch. With the 500cc everything can happen pretty fast, and this way if I get a little behind the rekluse will help out, but with the combination of the ttx suspension and the rekluse clutch the bike just will launch out of the turns. I always liked ridding really far forward on the seat, and with this beast you just have to be on the tank or your in the dirt.

The steering damper works great, more than anything it just makes me thing about being as smooth on the track as I can, slow is fast right.

I cant brag enough about the suspension, its amazing. I really had to adjust my timing, because the top stroke of the suspension is so soft, but then it just firms up right when you need it.

The combination of the frame, motor, suspension, and clutch make this bike so much fun to ride.

Wow, I know we're all wishing we could ride it. How cool would it be to have a test of this bike, a CR500AF, KX500AF, and an RM500?!

Now I understand that this bike is way beyond my ability but I always wanted a works bike. After putting some time on this bike I will say the things that I have spent the extra money on are well worth it for me. I am too old to guess on my suspension working with Ohlins USA is great no guessing you tell them what you want how much you weigh and they send out the suspension all dialed in.

I would loan my bike to be tested. That would be a great shoot out. I had a Conversion in a Honda CRF 450F frame and did not care for it, the bike would not turn.

This bike turns on a dime. The more you load the front forks the better it turns.
