Super cool article.

I went and checked out a sweet looking 97 RM250 on craigslist a few months back. It sure looked killer on the stand, but after riding newer bikes, the ol '97 felt pretty slow. It felt super skinny too.

Nothing looks better to me than the 94-98 KX motocross bikes. Pure sex right there...

Great article as usual and I'm pretty sure I have the mxa with that shootout tucked away somewhere . I love the styling of that era of RMs .

Excellent article! I just love the styling of bikes from that era, especially the 97 KX's.

the 90`s bikes were so much cooler than the ones of today, every year looked so much different!

My very first 125 was a 1997. I remember this spread well.

Somewhere I have a promotional video (VHS) Yamaha sent me introducing the new lineup for 1996. It featured Justin Buckelew. I may have 1997 as well.

I still have my 97' KX 250. Best bike I have ever owned and one of my favorites. I don't remember much about the stock suspension but I do know that after ProAction got done with it, I could jump it off a house and not think twice. For getting rude air, that was the best bike I ever had. It was also the only bike I ever owned that the difference between 3/4 throttle and full was very noticeable, even while in the powerband. I don't know what they are talking about when they said it didn't have much over rev. It is has some of the most useful over rev power of just about any bike I've rode. Love that thing.

I had a 97 KX and loved it, had a chance to trade it for a new YZ that was tricked out by Varner and FMF, that thing was even better. My cousin had the CR and once he had the suspension done that thing was awesome too.

I know how you feel, I am 38, apparently I'm old. I have these mags, I started to buy MX mags with my lawn mowing $ back in 1986 at the thrifty's in Chino Ca. I didn't have a dirt bike because my parents were not for that but I would ride my BMX bike and follow friends on YZ 80's to local tracks to watch them ride and dream. I memorized those mags... lol

I can still clear as a bell remember picking up my old mans ADB subscription of that issue back when I was 9 and not wanting to go to footy training because I didn't want to put it down. And too this day the 97 yz's are still near the top of my favorite looking bikes
