Do you think a 450 will make a C rider ride slower? I'm really trying to decide if I should sell it and get a 250f. I really love the 450 and its power and stability is nice but I don't know if I mightget less tired and be able to be faster/ have more fun on a 250f. I keep switching between selling my bike and keeping it.
It's a 2013 kx450f, I just got a revalve and have only ridden it one time since. I want to give it another chance. I love the bike honestly.

I am sorry for asking this again but I just need to decide.

a C rider should never be on a 450. You will become a lazy rider.

I lost it when my computer broke unfortunately, I'm not super bad at riding it, but i feel like I could be faster on a smaller bike. I obviously need more seat time

The reason I say that - a lot of time our ears deceive us. We think we are going faster on smaller bikes because they are revving more, but depending on your riding style you might actually be carrying more speed at lower RPM on the bigger one. But of course, if you get a 250 I guess you'll be racing against other 250s...

Yea I remember than phenomenon from when I had my 125. It's more about learning curve and the speed at which skill progresses on a 250 vs 450 than my speed right now tho

Don't mean to get too personal but what do u weigh if I may ask? If you are well over 200 I would say don't do that to a 250f.

If you are not packing a lot of weight I would think you will turn better lap times and last a lot longer on the 250. Safer too as the 450's are dangerously fast to anyone less than a A rider

Oh no that's way too personal I'm very offended.

Just kidding haha sorry couldn't resist.
I weigh about 180 without gear but I'm gaining weight and I'll be over 200 for sure one day

Or a 250 2 stroke. I rode 2 of them yesterday, not on a track but they are awesome! I loved my 125 and I love 2 strokes. I'm seriously considering it and with a flywheel weight I could easily handle the power

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a 350...they make you ride aggressive if you want to be fast, not as lazy as a 450.

Well the reason I ask is that I was around 190 when I had my last 250f and that seemed to be pushing it for weight. My brother who weighs around 240 was really putting a strain on the motor when he rode it

Well, I was faster on my 250f before I got a 450. I got tired a lot quicker on the 450 and I was about 2 seconds slower at my local track. Once I got in better shape, It was about even. I think you would enjoy the 250 much much more. You will be able to ride longer and learn to keep your momentum up in turns. Get it!

Edit: Just saw where you weight over 200lbs. Not good, I was around 165lbs. A 350, 250 two stroke, or stay with what you got.

I am curious about something. Do you know if the 350 motors are super durable like 450s or are they less reliable like a 250? or are they right in the middle?

I prefer a bike where I can utilize 100% of its power the majority of the time. That's what makes 125's so much fun. But I ride a 250t right now. I'd love to find a KTM150 though.

i honestly miss the 125 beginner class where nobody could clear the simplest doubles on the track. it was like watching the sportsman class mixed with ping-pong.

the 250 beginner class is lame now, all those dudes have the stones and the power to jump everything on the track.

I weigh exactly the same as the OP; 180 w/o gear. I just sold my CRF450R and bought a '15 YZ250F for the exact reasons you stated. After 5 years on a 450 I felt my intensity fading away and I was carrying less and less momentum around the track. Basically felt like I was losing skill every year.

I've only ridden my 250 a couple times now but I'm really enjoying it so far. It took a few motos to get used to shifting again but I welcome the challenge of going fast on a 250. Also, there's some intangible good feels when you can go faster than dudes on 450s.

my son is 6ft 2 and 230 lbs and rides a YZ125 pretty fast. A 250 2 stroke sounds right up your alley.

This is obviously just a single opinion, butmy 350 has been nothing but bullet proof. I am a fairly fast +25A rider who loves to dance around the rev limited. 124 hours and the valves never moved, not even a cunt hair. They are a 1-piece forging from Del West (USA Made even) and are top of the line. I only replaced them because I felt it was way overdue. KTM uses a steel clutch basket in the 350 so they do not notch, and the inner hub uses steel inserts...they do not notch either. In 4 years I have had 2 batteries, one I keep for a spare (which I never need). IMO they are much closer to a 450 as opposed to a 250 in the maintenence department.
