Authorities warn of wire cables being strung across state forest trails in Wrentham, Foxboro

FOXBORO — Someone is stringing wire cables across trails in state forests, including in Wrentham, Foxboro and Franklin.

The state Department of Conservation and Recreation and Massachusetts Environmental Police are warning riders and hikers the intention appears to be to cause harm. No one has been seriously hurt yet, officials say.

Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Massachusetts Environmental Police issued a warning riders and other trail users of wire cables being tied across trails with the intent to cause serious harm, DCR spokesman Troy Wall said.

Police are asking for anyone coming across these wires to report them.

Environmental police have posted warning signs along the trails and authorities are also getting the word out on social media.

Wire cables have been reported in the Gilbert Hills State Forest in Foxboro, the Franklin State Forest, the Wrentham State Forest and the Freetown State Forest.

Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to call environmental police at 1-800-632-8075, or the DCR Park Watch Hotline at 1-866-759-2824.

If they catch them (hopefully before a tragedy occurs) I hope they are charged with attempted murder.

If I lived in the area I would be spending some serious time to catch these fuckers in the act. Can't believe there are humans this disgusting. These people must really hate themselves and their lives to go out of their way to set up traps.

I live in ma and I've run into these traps before. There's a trail about 1/2 a mile from my house I've been riding for about 15 years. About 5 years ago I started noticing traps like these set up. They strung barbed wire across trees at different parts of the trail. Some were knee high and others up to neck high. They also strung rusty fishing hooks from trees that would stick into you and rip you off your bike. These are almost impossible to see. I had 1 catch my arm once and I required stitches. I took them all down myself and they only went back up once. The trails been clear the last 4 years.

People put up piano wire on some trails near me years ago. Caught a kid in the neck.

Anyone caught doing this deserves a first-rate ass beating. As in, injuries at least as serious as one would incur if they fell victim to these traps. Truly fucking ridiculous.

Wrentham State Forest and Freetown State Forest I believe are the only Mass State land where ORV use is still allowed, at least in the eastern part of the state.

There was someone doing stuff like this in the PNW area on dh mtb trails. They caught that psycho bitch. Said she was 'scared' of the bikers going fast so she started making traps. Forget the amount of punishment she got but it was pretty decent I believe.

They do crap like this all the time in Colorado.

The scum leave stuff like this... Welded and painted and ready to do harm...

And they found several of these last week.

People in the area need to at least start putting up some wildlife cameras. A good old fashioned ass kicking is in order here.

Whats worse? Property owners who dont like the sound and lack of privacy, or the god damn tree huggers?

Scumbags the both of 'em.

Call the "environmental police"? That is(almost) the stupidest shit I've ever heard and a nice attempt to deflect blame away from "environmentalists". This is straight-up criminal and borderline terroristic. Good to see they've got the heavy-hitters on the case...

Here's one from out here a few years ago:
http://www.pinkbike.com/news/County-worker-charged-with-trail-sabotage-…

Hope he's had a few terrible "accidents" since then.

wow... some people are just fucking evil.

i pulled this nail out of my tire riding a local multi-use trail. 16 penny. i can't even imagine the shit storm if a horse would have stepped on this and broke it's leg. where i picked it up was on a very sketchy switch-back mountain trail with complete exposure to cliffs below. it could have been really really bad. i saw it just as i was about to go over it, it was in a row of a few more propped up and held down with some dirt to form a spike-strip.

Didn't we have this problem before with the "Earth First" crowd? Where is the Phantom Duck of the Desert when we need him?

Someone stretched a cable across a logging road that we had been riding on for over 10yrs....and it decapitated our friend. Found out it was a new couple that had moved into a house about a half mile away about 1 month before. Lost someone we all cared about because something completely selfish and ignorant. Never forget you Danny.

Didn't someone get decapitated in Florida from this kind of crap a few years ago? What kind of person thinks that this is an acceptable thing to do? Blows my mind.

Back in the late 80's the Sierra Club was caught laying out pyramid tacks in the desert before the Barstow to Vegas race. Their excuse was to protect the desert tortoise from the racers. Irony of it was the tacks killed more tortoises than bikes. Now the AMA works hand in hand with the Sierra Club.... Those guys are the OG enviro terrorists
