Looking for a 450. Been off the bike 2 years. Last one was an 08 CR450. Loved it. Was also very fond of my 03 YZ450 from back then. Been reading that 06-08 YZ450's are very good bikes. Vet rider. Ocotillo. I jump 95% of the jumps at most of the vet tracks. 200lbs geared. Used to be a slow local intermediate. Almost 50 just getting slower. Miss riding though.
You can find them cheap

Finding one in good shape for a decent price is the best move you can make.
I'm 35 and racing an old 2002 YZ250 this year and doing reasonably well on it. Last year I raced a '11 YZ125 and that worked too. At 200 lbs with gear (so maybe 180 without?), a 450F or a 250 smoker is an easy bike for you to ride. I have a buddy at the track who races a '14 YZ250F in the 30+ and 40+ class. He hauls the mail on that thing, but it's going to take a little more frequent rebuilding vs the 450F. The 250 smoker and 350F are just about perfect middle ground depending on your preference. I wish more companies made a 350F.
Don't want a 250F. Just too slow. I also had the 08 CRF250 and loved everything about it cept the power. I was always twisting the grip off that thing and still wanted more. Great bike though, never got arm pump no matter how outta shape I was, and let's you treat it like you don't have to wake up with it in the morning.
I love the 450 power. Always right there when you need it.
I think the best answer is the cleanest one I can find.
Thanks guys.
MXA did a article on one several months back and made huge HP, said with mods bike can still be a national contender!
Cheaper to work on too!
You won't find a better bike
Pit Row
We vets like to keep it simple. I'd say Honda or Yamaha, since he's had experience with both.
OP, those '06 to '09 Yamahas (pre-backwards engine) are a thing of beauty.
Otherwise buy a used roach 125 and spend all that money to build a slow bike that needs a new top end every 3 weeks
