Soccer socks are a good alternative if you want to wear high socks.

I wear ankle socks when I ride. MX socks and normal socks make my feet so hot.

It's not only about socks. It's more general ... Some stuff are just way overpriced if you consider what it is ... The bikes and maintenance are already bloody expensive and then you have too pay high amount of dollars for some basic stuff as well. I have a feeling that manufacturers are like "hey it's a MX product, let's charge the roof out of this thing".

I typically buy everything second hand (I don't have the money nor do I want to spend that much) and I was shocked when I entered a store last week and see the retail prices for brand new stuff.

This might be an unpopular opinion but yeah ..

No you're right, man. Same with every industry. I managed a ski shop for a while and was blown away at the mark-up on stuff - 70 to over 100%. I'll never pay retail for that shit again, it's insane.

Not saying it's right or wrong but remember that most moto companies aren't buying in the quantities of a WalMart or Target. Therefore, the cost to produce and ship (if manufactured overseas) is going to be higher per unit than big box stores.

If you don't have to have the logo, in most cases, you can get away with the big box store stuff. The other point is, if people are willing to pay that price, then companies will sell at that price.

I donated my ankle socks to the local old folks home....the nurses get the old fellers to tuck their nuts in them so they don't trip and fall in the hallways!

Ya it's pretty ridiculous how this stuff works. A local gun shop bought some cheap olive drop colored socks from the store for a little research type deal. They put them out in two pairs each and wrote 2 pack tactical socks for $25. They told me they sold every pair they had in just a few days. They couldn't believe it. No one even argued the price. They never did it again though.

If something is for a hobby...you can charge a small fortune for it.

I'm thinking about marketing a special toilet paper for motocrossers. It will be specifically designed for those that suffer from monkey butt. Its soft, yet absorbent and can be bought in colors that match your gear.

I'm thinking $7.50/roll is a fair price

Lol. My wife's favorite thing to tell me when I ask how much something cost is how much she "saved". Blink

But, then again, my moto purchases aren't always that easy to justify to my wife either.

Just put a set of wheels together for $350. I saved about $350. Lol. Still spent 350 shit. But I saved 350 that's the important part.il

Theoretically I saved 700 yesterday by not putting them together and ordering spokes and rims...shit. So I actually spent $700! Now i gotta make 1400 just put $700 MORE back into the bank. I Know. You're minds are blown. Carry on.

How about tear offs? I'm not sure if it's the same in the States but here they get away with charging some pretty substantial amounts for some thin pieces of plastic you'll be chucking on the ground anyway.

Yep. Hubs and rims are ri-got-darn-dicilous. Gonna need to do it though.

Also, side by side stuff. I have a Polaris ranger that i wanted some stuff for, like plowing snow and hunting. That... My god. 400 for a plastic roof. 200 for a plexiglass half windshield. 500 for a 20" LED strip light. Jeeze. I thought motocross was expensive.

Just tossed $200 for my snowmobile mid layer, well worth every penny. In all my snow gear I'm in well over a grand, but it's all great quality stuff that will last 3-5 years and keep me warm.

My moto stuff? Bought new One Industries gear for my last Mexico trip and in 450 miles both knees are gone and the jersey is worn through in multiple spots. Absolute fucking Junk.

I know where the OP intent was, but I honestly think our sport uses the least to get the most. $70 for a silky jersey with holes in it? Lol

Wait till' you enter the bicycling world....

Best socks are Nike dryfit baseball socks. They're over the knee, and they're left/right specific so the pinky toe area doesn't bunch. Plus they deal with foot sweat well. 7-8 bucks at Dicks Sporting Goods.

Especially good for the smaller toe-box boots like Sidi.

Ha ha, you guys must not be into cycling. Cycling parts/gear makes moto seem like a bargain. Biggest ripoff in the history of mankind.

I think all hobbies are super expensive to survive.

Rc cars. Nitro 4wd glass will cost a mini fortune to even been competative

Hockey has some stupid prices as well 250$ for a new twig that may or may not break two games into the season
