The Shop
Bikes hinting up on 10 grand makes me sad. I can't keep up with inflation.
Cycletrader used to be key but not anymore it seems
Personally if I wanted something like a 450 right now , I'd go pick up a 15' KX450F for $6700.00. But that would be for moto. If I was doing offroad , I'd be picking up one of those KTM 300's.
As far as pricing, there are still dealers out there that focus way more on volume than others who just want to hit MSRP. The "crating a KTM" thread touched on that.
I also agree on the buying-used-idea. Obviously better if you live in a heavily-populated area, but I see very clean KTMs a year or two old at really good prices. Many look bone-stock and brand new. And if you're REALLY obsessive compulsive, pull the cylinder, do a top-end right away and while you're at it, make sure to pull the power valves apart and de-carbon & polish everything. It'll be crisp and bark like new (I try to do that to my 250XC a couple times a season - it really is the key to maintaining the like-new bark - I can't stand it when 2-strokes sound old and ratty).
Pit Row
I can confidently say I put more wear on a bike in 1 day sand trail riding than most vets I know would in 20 hrs social riding.
