..What is everyone's preferred all round mx tyre?
I've got a sx 250 smoker and race towards the front of the C class. most of the tracks I ride are sand and loamy soil based but there is a mixture of everything, not much real solid hard pack though.
I've got Michelin ms3's on at the moment and while I don't have many issues with the rear I'm not a fan of the front, never really feels secure when pushing in to turns.
I've read many posts on vital and a tyre set which pops up a lot is the Bridgestone 403/404, these posts always seem to be a few years old though are these tyres still a good all round mx tyre or is there now better out there?

If you like the rear, you can always mix and match.
I run mh3 rear and M12 front on my crfs. The M12 bites well in just about every soil condition and is very predictable. I tried the ms3 front before, it sucks. You can also give the Dunlop mx42 front a try. Good tire

For the florida sand on my KTM I use a Michelin S-12XC front and on my RMZ I have a Dunlop MX32 front and I am happy with both. I run MS3 rears on both bikes.

The Dunlop MX32 front is a good tire. Still wishing they would bring back the 756 though!!

Why do some spell it "tire" and others "tyre"?

These right here are my favorite to use. If we get into sloppy weather in the winter I'll use some of the Mich S12's.

Are these the replacement for the 403/404? The x30 seems to get some great reviews Online, not sure if my local shop stocks Bridgestone, I'll have a check tomorrow.

To each their own, I guess. Smile Never been a huge Michelin fan, but I'll run anything if it's free.

Don't often find that the best of anything is attainable when "on a budget." Have to make a note of this.

The Dunlop MX32 tires (F/R) are the best tires if used in loamy conditions. They aren't the greatest on hard pack, but they have the MX52's for that. They wear out fairly fast, but the traction is worth it, if you're racing.

When you ride a lot it matters to buy tires that last.

I find the Bridgestone X30 wears better than the Dunlop 32's
The dunlops are good new, but loose performance quickly. The X30's are good and stay good for longer.
Out of interest, the dunlops you and I buy are made in indonesia these days ( while the pro's dunlops are still made in the Japanese factory). Why they still choose to make the pro's in Japan must say something for the quality of the Indonesia version?
Bridgestones X30 are still made in Japan.

Pirelli MX32 (mid soft). Work great everywhere. I prefer the old MT32 front, but sadly gone.

Yes they are Tom. When you compare them side by side , the rear has the little inner knobbies and this new extra ribs sections on the side , supposed to be " cooling fins " haha , whatever. But the knobbies themselves seem to be spaced slightly different then the 404. The front seems to be slightly different and a little more aggressive as well.

From what I understand is , they didn't re-name the tires so much because of a visual stand point , but more of a rubber compound stand point. This new rubber is supposed to last even longer then the previous 403 / 404 tires. And I gotta say , still to this day , I've never seen a tire hold up as long as what the older 403 / 404 and X30's do...very incredible tires. Love em , and are perfect for weekend warriors like myself.

BTW , I just put a brand new set of freshie's on my RM tonight and it's ready to rip on Saturday. Braaapp!

I run x30, they last a long time, and they are super consistent/predictable. The mx52 rear is good. The mx51 is complete shit, I used to run 403/404 and x30 is very similar. X30 maybe has a little bit better traction, and last longer.

Jeff let me know how the X30's work for you!

my 203/404 combo will probably wear out pretty quick down here in vegas area once I actually start riding again, I want to run the X30 when Im done and trust your opinion!

man... I need to go riding!!! DizzyDizzyDizzyDizzyDizzy

Thanks all! I'm going to give the X30 a go, it seems to be recommended more than any other in all of the threads I've read.
the track we're at next weekend destroys tyres do I'll wait until after then I think.

My opinion exactly. MX32 front works damn well in most conditions
