Do they use their exemption now or later? This is the best opportunity to see a works bike again in SX!

There's no reason to use it now since it's just a white KTM. A good looking white KTM, but still.

The 250 is where gains will be made.

The crank/rod ,rod ratio.

Combustion chamber, valve face and piston top coatings.

Then bring that back to ktm for 16 or 17

At what point does Husky not want to be a "white KTM"? I'm thinking they get started as a factory team for the first year or 2 and then once they are established, start the developement of a "non white KTM"?

We're asking the wrong questions. Has nothing to do with what Husky wants because it's not Huskys program it's KTM's program.

Is there an exemption rule in place for the 250's? I think that would be the first "works" 250 that we would see if they use it there!

I think that's true today but I also think KTM wants them to have their own successful program in the future.

there are no works bikes. not one. exemption rule or not, a works bike is, imho, a radically different machine and a real R&D go wild with innovations testing ground. we haven't seen a works bike since 1985, at least not in the states. closest thing we've seen to works innovation is Yamaha's reverse engine, but that's in production.

What do you guys mean by "works" bike?
Way back when, the AMA added an exemption to the production rule for bikes that says that certain parts (frame, engine cases etc.) must be stock. The exemption allows the manufacturer to run a "works" bike I.e. a one off bike similar to what you see in Moto GP.

You forgot Henry's '98 YZ400, but yeah, I have to agree with you otherwise.

The re-badging of KTMs as Husqvarna's is about selling more chainsaws and lawn mowers at Home Depot than it is about selling motorcycles.

Good point, and may be true, but a factory team is a BIG investment into a product. Who knows though. Husky could just end up being the "KTM" sattelite team and stick with good secont tier teams like Rockstar.

...except that Husqvarna motorcycles and Husqvarna power equipment are not related in any way, shape or form. The two companies do not share anything but a name that they both got from an older, now defunct corporation. The only reason I know this is that I interviewed for a job with the power equipment company a year or two ago.

I bet we'll see a works Husky when KTM wants to race something radical that they want to test. Not until then.

This is *pure speculation* on my part, but I'm guessing that someone at KTM approached the Swedes and said, "For a mere annual investment of $xxxxxxxxxxxx, we can expand your brand awareness in you key males 18-34 demographic (guys that buy new lawn equipment at HD) by Y. Your money goes to plastic, decals, big rig, rider salaries and collateral. We'll sell the motorcycles."

How do you know the motorcycle folks are writing this check? And they share the brand and the logo. I have a Husky in the shed. Lawnmower. This about branding.

Husqvarna Motorcycles is a completely different company than the outdoor power equipment company, which is The Husqvarna Group and is still Swedish owned.

The only thing they share is the brand name. What one company does has absolutely zero influence or impact on the other. This all started in 1987 when The Husqvarna Group sold the motorcycle division to Cagiva.

Sneaky way for KTM to have a second crack at it, since they kind of wasted their first go.

Electrolux owned the bike company when cagiva bought it in 86ish.

Husqvarna started as a gun manufacturer.

The emblem is a gunsight or sights.
