The story goes like this.......

Jeffro503 entered the fray and decided to start posting on the internet before it was even created ( so he created it ) and then created all the MX forums.....it lit the world on fire and had his millions of peeps ( fans ) so excited that they decided to create the interweb....and believe it or not.....the interweb was created so all Jeff's peeps could keep up with what the legendary dude was doing from day to day.

It was the greatest day on earth except for two things ( although some say they weren't AS important )......

1.) The planet was created.
2.) Jeff started the sport of MX

After these two very important things happened......it was a given that Hutch , Steve and Scottie decided to create a resting place....a world wide communication database so Jeffro could stay in contact with his millions of fans. It's hard....it really is.....finding the time to keep up with all the fan mail when he's out winning championship after championship , laying complete and utter waste to any single hot chick that walks by , having millions in the bank , and everything else that comes with being a Motocross God........Elvis didn't have shit on him.

And there you have it. And you're welcome.

Yosmithy drew it on a napkin, true story!

In the beginning, GuyG created the motodrive. And it was good, but did not make much money. Then The Brent came with offerings of rolling MD into Vital and legitimizing the Vital brand and allowing GuyG to attend all the races, and do product reports, and other fun stuffs such as this, and so MD became VitalMX. And it was good...though slightly more politically correct. The End.

I always thought that somebody just took the theme for Cheers and applied it to a website forum.

Al called me the night before and asked permission. I thought I would try to give him a little bit of glory.......BUT.......everyone already knew he was full of crap and didn't believe him anyways. His plan backfired ......anyone with 1/2 a brain knew Jeffro created it. Pfft!......Al....what a loser.

Now what?

Here's sort of the short(ish) version.

I actually started Motodrive waaay back, probably in the mid-90s, as a place to show off my photos, and photo galleries of events I went to. Just for kicks, I dropped in a forum, and it largely went unnoticed for quite a while.

During the meltdown of Fresh Dirt, EI Dave said something along the lines of, "GuyB has a board. Let's go fuck it up." That's when the early migration to Motodrive happened.

I later got hired over at TWMX, and Motodrive was puttering along nicely during that time, independently of what I was doing for work.

At the last company meeting I went to while at TransWorld, our group publisher at the time, Brad McDonald, was going through each title (Surf, Snow, Skate, BMX, MX, Quad, etc.) and it sounded like this. "Well, circulation's down, newsstand numbers are down, subscriptions are down, ad revenue is down...but the web site is up by xxx%." It was that way through pretty much every title in the roster. Brad is very much a numbers guy, and I think the light bulb came on for him at that point that the magazines were maybe not the place to be long-term, and that the huge growth potential was in the web side of things.

Brad and Todd Toth left TransWorld to start Vital, spending the first few months brainstorming over what the sites should look like, which avenues to pursue, and basically starting from scratch. Mark Losey (another long-time TransWorld employee) initially came over to do Vital BMX. I was brought on to work on Vital MX. We completed the triad of sights with Vital Skate, which was later shelved in favor of Vital MTB.

Brad made me an offer to buy Motodrive, and the membership was folded into here. That pretty much brings us up to date. We just had our sixth anniversary earlier this summer.

And TJ, I'm not sure that it's all that much more politically correct than in the past. I'm always game for a bit of subversive humor. It's just when people are blatantly (intentionally or unintentionally) dumb and/or can't play well with others that I clip some of the nonsense.

Actually, Gibby left out all the cornholing, chaffing, meltdowning, STFU Noob'ing, EABOD'ing, Yamaboying and Ringers Halloween Ball.

Yeah, I may have the exact wording wrong. But I can confirm that it wasn't, "Let's rearrange the doilies, and polish the fine China."
