After reading the thread about rider salaries, I was wondering how much the Mechanics and Team would make. Team Two Two must have a fairly large payroll. Osterman,Goose and Lars all very experienced in the industry, must command top dollar. Maybe our Pro Mechanic turned Pro Moto Journalist can weigh in on this with some insight. What would the pay scale be between Factory Mechanics and Privateer Mechanics? Many factors I'm sure but what would the base salary be?

IMO I don't even see goose making more than $500k probably closer to $250K and he is the top mechanic.

Hundreds of thousands of people don't pay to watch him work do they? If it wasn't for this guy being a fan then they wouldn't have a job, so yes it is his business.

Man, you need to get some viagra and maybe go throw a few into the wife because you're a real bitch sometimes.

I have no idea what guys of Gooses caliber makes. But Im inclined to assume that he has made the majority of his earnings via bonus'. Gotta figure a guy of his caliber made six figure salary during the hey day. But he paid a lot of dues to get there.

Ive seen Satellite & Private team mechanics make anywhere from 55-75k a year. Plus the industry standard of 10% of any bonus money their rider makes.

Privateer mechanics do it for the love of the sport.

Mechanics used to get better pay but a mechanic sued Yamaha a few years back and that really fucked things up. Coincidentally the Factory team was pulled shortly after.

IDK, but with RC, Reed, & Dungey, I'd say Goose is pretty well off.

What was the deal with the Yamaha thing?

You are as wrong as possible... It is absolutely NONE of his business.

Because I eat at a local restaurant, should I demand to know what the chef makes?

Calm down huck. The OP is just a fan interested in what a SX mechanic makes. He isnt asking to see any specific tech's tax return or anything like that.

It's a general question. Like asking what does a NBA referee typically pull in, or what does a lawyer make, or what does a police officer typically make. It's not about anyone specific, so relax.

guy's that are honestly doing it for a living probably 25-30K

Some of the better guy's 60-70K a few better then that and bonuses if you got a top rider who feels it's important to motivate everyone with rewards.

Again, hundreds of thousands of people dont pay to watch him cook, they pay to eat.

Not as much as one would think....my buddy was a mechanic for factory Suzuki and he was around 50k. Most smaller teams and satellite pay less. Some make money from riders paying them bonus (around 5 - 15%), depending on the agreement set up between rider and mechanic. Not to mention they work some seriously LONG days. Also, from what I understand most are independent contractors, responsible for their own taxes and all that, a small amount actually work for the manufacturer.

The salaries would very wildly from team to team, especially when you're comparing privateer and full factory team salaries.

I would bet the top factory team mechanics are making six figures with performance bonuses on top of that. The pay scale plummets as you get lower and lower in the crew hierarchy.

Some of the better teams have a Bonus program for the "Affected" mechanic(s)...and some even buy Pizza on the following Monday for the WHOLE Team/Company/Office...etc.

Anyone care to comment on the potential for a Mechanic to get a Bonus for a NO Mechanical DNF/No Problems season?

None of the Mechanics are making 6 figures Unless they have a very generous rider and is winning a lot of races,
I can tell you this TP is a very generous rider, Even when he does not win.

millions a year then stock options that will blow yer socks off! nobody does this shit for the love of the sport anymore, quite the contrary hence the big bucks available to anybody willing to travel. I hear the journalists and the cover people are raking in the cash like it's going out of style!

so this is what vitals been reduced to? questions that can't possibly have a standard answer to. inquiries that nobody will possibly address?

Agreed, most of you guys would be surprised at what some of these guys make(or don't).
I'd say Goose has done pretty well for himself over the years and has had a few sweet checks handed to him by his riders at years end. JBone too...

If they get free travel, free hotels, free food, tools supplied, attend every sx/mx race live for free, etc then anything over 30k would be a dream job in my book. Beets the hell out of working 6-7 days per week at a job you hate just to make 50k and then spending 10k following the sport. In the end the mechanics have it way better and they don't have to do shit they hate for 70 hours per week.

i love the dude who thinks Goose is making 250K per year Woohoo

a top level executive at Honda might make that much, but certainly not a mid-level member of a race team that is an extension of the marketing budget.

you guys do realize that SX/MX racing teams don't bring in any money for the manufacturers, right? Have the last 4 years in this economic climate not taught you anything?

on the pulpmx show they said guys like berlutti and goose are probably making CLOSE to 100K a year but they've been at it for 20+ years..im sure they took a big pay cut, liek everyone else due to the economic down turn

these guys are the 'legends' of MX management and have paid their dues and have been there an ddone that.

Sorry Mr Stock but you got it very wrong. If you spent 70 hours working on somebody else's bike, while being constantly around motorbikes, motocrossers and everything else motocross, 350 days, 8-16 hours a day, 6 days a week, changing parts cause your rider thinks this other part was better when you know dam well they were 2 seconds slower with it last week, putting up with a shit head spoilt brat, living out of a suitcase and on fast food and cheap resturant food (nothing makes you appreciate home cooking more), in and out of airports and shitty planes cramed next to some smelly over weight bis exec, you would want to even consider riding a bike on your one day off? Or maintaining it! Obviously you don't have a partner or kids. Or the idea that at the end of the day it's just a job to earn the best living you can. Yes it does have some perks but it can get pretty old pretty dam quick depending on your circumstances. Free tools? Only to others that don't return your shit. Nice dream but.
