Here's how my collection looked at the beginning of 2015
Full specs can be seen in my 'Bike Checks'

The 08 is getting a full refurb with A-Kit forks/RMZ front end and Ohlins shock this winter
The 89 is currently having a 92 barrel and head fitted, along with a 97 Airstriker Carb

Will post more pics once complete!

Need to machine the lower triple clamp diameter by 1mm to accept the larger forks.

I'm trying to get your Raf shroud and tanks decals that you have on your bike. Who made yours? I don't see a one industries logo on them.

Thanks

I got my entire kit through Dare Decals in the UK.
I sent him a few pics of Carmichaels 05 RM250 he used for SX, mentioned the changes I wanted and he did the rest.
Not an easy company to use, communication can be difficult and he isn't super quick but he does produce awesome graphics, they last well too.

Yes, but it is a little tricky. Shimming it alone will take out the slop, but once you lock the allen bolt, your pedal will freeze. So you have to back the bolt out like 1/4 turn to get the pedal to move again. But then you have to figure out how to keep the bolt from unwinding.

So the backside of the bolt is drilled for a cotter pin. You have to put a few washers on the backside, to where you can barely get a cotter pin through the hole. Then you will basically lock the bolt where you want it. It takes a lot of playing around wish washers and shims, but works good. Just sucks to remove the pedal if you are doing work on the bike cause now you've made it like 10X more complicated to remove.

I did this mostly to keep the pedal from scraping up the clutch cover.
Thanks, I found out why the pedal got sloppy in the first place. The grease on the bolt completely dried up and some dirt found it's way past the seals (lack of maintenance by PO). Which wore the bolt and inside of pedal out. Going to try your method of shimming with washers. I'm not sure what the guy on TT was talking about a bronze bushing there is none in mine. Could also drill out pedal and press in a bushing if I can't get the washers to work.

Hey guys... doing some research for a potential build.

Question - how are you all finding parts availability for these now they're a few years old?

Both for basics and shiny nice parts.

Parts availability is good, I've not struggled to get any OEM part I've needed here in the UK. Be prepared to spend a lot though, the parts aren't cheap.

You may struggle a little with some parts. Things like wheel sets, clamps, rear brake pedals, linkages, after market suspension etc can be difficult to track down., not many companies offer these parts or have stopped production if they did. eBay will become your best friend. Some companies still produce though such as Boyesen, Talon, Apico, RFX.

Depending on what style build you're doing, quite a few bits from RMZ's can be made to fit.

Update on my 04 build. Finally got the suspension back from FC. Ran into an issue with the rear shock being scored inside so I had to buy a new rear shock. Luckily the guy at FC let me know of a mint 04 replacement I quickly scooped up off ebay. All that's really left is the chain and brakes.

Jeffro wasn't kidding when he said my bike was a diamond in the rough. So many things were roached out from the lack of maintenance. At least the motor/transmission seemed in great condition for all the hours logged. I didn't split the cases the transmission seemed fine and the crank bearings were still smooth. The type of riding the PO did I doubt they beat the transmission.

I would have liked to get yellow excels, hinson clutch cover, 19 inch rim, and a full PC system. However, after spending $1k for the revalve and over $1k in parts. I can't really justify spending anymore at the moment. Lastly I had an issue with transmission fluid leaking out. Hoping it was just the oil drain plug not being tight enough time will tell.

Is anybody looking to sell an 06+ RM250? I owned my 07 RM125 for almost 7 years, bought a 350sxf and loved it but I've always wanted the RM250. I'm in southern California but I'm not opposed to shipping the bike. Reading this thread just made me want one even more.

I've owned nothing but RMs since the late '70s.

I stopped buying new ones after '02, because that was the last year you could get a green sticker in CA, and I like to rip some trails.

Heres my 08 RM125, the day I got it home versus how it sits now.

Its been a Massive rebuild project but hopefully she will be worth it when she is done, will be a little different to all the other RM builds so I think it will stand out, hopefully for the right reasons.

I really wish I had a late model RM 250. I have been looking, because I loved my RM 125's. Best handling, and jumping bikes I ever owned. Nothing has felt as light and flickable...

Whenever I've let someone who's never ridden an RM ride my bike, they always tell me it's squirrelly.

I tell them, "No, it's not. Your bike's just a pig."
